I think you’re right, it’s a very confusing story of radio in that area for sure. I remember reading somewhere around the time they merged the licence area there were reception issues (I think it was in Port Augusta?). If I recall correctly I thought I read that neither 5CS or 5AU were received well in one of the 3 towns? Can you clarify? Maybe it was Whyalla.
… you got me there … when I was living in Pirie (or Napperby actually) there were spots where 5AU cut out but I don’t remember Whyalla being a problem … but then 5PI/CS was never envisaged as covering Whyalla …
Grant’s SA stations will introduce a new statewide rural program called “Primary Focus”, to be aired weekdays at 12-1pm. It commences from Monday 1st March, the same day most of its stations will officially convert to FM.
Whyalla is almost directly straight across the water from the 5AU 1242 transmitter at Mambray Creek so no issues there. 5CS also fine in Whyalla (again, mainly water path towards Crystal Brook). 5AU doesn’t get all that far south or east compared to the north and west but no real issue as 5CS takes over for the areas east of the ranges (Gladstone, Jamestown, Orroroo etc.) and south towards Adelaide.
When you thought Grant couldn’t get worse they remove all national sports coverage for local? It’s been well documented here but how the hell is that going to work for the average listener? It won’t last long after the stream of complaints coming through surely. I like the idea but if you are doing a local sports show do it on Saturday mornings, if you want to broadcast local sport, then do that but not at the expense of what the listeners want.
By having footy on Bay you could align the hit music variety streams better and build momentum from the morning programming (property guide, new sports show etc)
Doesn’t seem to be a clear strategy for Krock. I think they were at their best mid 00’s when the were targeting the alternative demographic playing modern rock during the day. These days they seem to target the already saturated CHR market where listeners go to Melbourne stations for their fix, then suddenly morph into the home of afl football during winter. The target audience in this group probably wouldn’t like Krock’s music format either and would be more loyal to TripleM or SEN perhaps.
I wonder how many of the ‘Krock’ audience that is out there don’t listen because of the out of place branding?
To some extent ‘Bay’ doesn’t fit as well as it use to - Bay to me kinda brings words like ‘Breeze’ and that kind of lighter music mix - that used to be their format of soft AC. But it’s a pretty generic term - unlike ‘Rock’.
Blow it up entirely and reset expectations, or return to the roots.
bay 93.9 Content Director, Mark Hyland will join Lisa “Milly” Millard as the co-host of the bay 93.9 Morning Crew, stepping aside as Grant Broadcasters Vic/SA Regional Content Director to allow time to do justice to the new breakfast gig.
Doesn’t seem like this was a decision made for the “best talent”, Mark is a fine anchor but this surely is a budgetary thing, he’s already in the building. He doesn’t exactly scream personality breakfast radio based on the years of hearing his work.
2ST appears to have received/will receive a new logo in a similar style to 2EC, but with their current colour scheme. It hasn’t rolled out to socials like 2EC’s has, and neither stations has changed their websites yet…
Has 2ST ever had a significant logo change in its history? I think I remember the current logo being around during holidays on the south coast in the 1970s. Not sure that the wave ripples in the 2EC logo are entirely appropriate for a station that also has a significant presence in the southern tablelands.
Nor is Power 100 Townsville, thousand + kilometres from the nearest baseload power station of any significance.
Power FM Kingaroy, the original s.39 of 4SB when owned by APN prior to SCA predecessor RG Capital buying and gutting it; was a good name as Tarong Power Station is a major part of the South Burnett, employer for Kingaroy, Nanango and surrounding areas.
