The Australian reporting ARN is ditching the SCA bid… interesting turn from a couple of months ago when “staff meetings were scheduled. Announcements were prepared” for this to sail through.
Side note, time for this thread to get a new name? Nearly a year on and not much to suggest the North Sydney Raiders can get the job done.
Do we expect to see SCA look for more M&A opportunities with companies like SWM etc to scale up?
Do wish they’d rebrand to Austereo though, the SC name has no meaning especially once they dispose of the TV assets. Would have been a better name for Listnr too just quietly.
Getting out of TV would mean being able to own stations in a lot of the markets that ACE or BOG are currently in, so they could further scale in radio.
Just become a lean audio company.
My only other, and much stupider, idea for them would be buy Foxtel. Fox Sports + Triple M would be a very powerful combo for sports rights and capturing that demographic on all platforms, while on the Hit side you could bundle in video podcasts into Binge.
So yeah, become much smaller, or much bigger - that’s my smart analysis…
The Australian government’s Takeovers Panel has ruled on the Sandon Capital request to lift voting restrictions on some shares in SCA.
The next step in the saga has unfolded today, with the Takeovers Panel proposing a staged change in the voting restrictions in its ruling. That is unlikely to please Sandon Capital if it wants to take any immediate action about the board spill.
And also, at the end of the above Radioinfo article…
Will we see some new takeover activity now that the new financial year [2025-26] has begun? After buying SCA’s regional TV assets, would 7West Media be interested in acquiring ARN, especially since ARN has recently reduced its operational costs with a round of redundancies? Only time will tell.
