91.6 is on air in Sydney
That’s a temporary frequency, used for special events like Ramadan and Chinese New Year. It’s Ramadan at the moment.
I don’t think it’s been off air much if at all in recent months?
It seems to have been more ON than OFF so far this year anyway.
As for being a “special events” frequency, finding it OFF seems to have become something of a special event in itself.
Yes- it’s on more often than not but I mostly don’t receive it here.
I’m not sure, I only just noticed it today. Not good reception though, must be on very low power.
200 watts I think?
Looks like it’s operating from Governor Phillip Tower in the CBD.
Sounds like it’s similar to 99.7 in Melbourne that’s used for Aus Open, Grand Prix and NYE fireworks. Although I think the transmission site might vary depending on the event.
And another Ramadan temporary FM broadcaster on air at the moment is ‘Australian Muslim Voice’ on 99.5 from Canberra & with RDS.
Yes: can get it with RDS here. Not sure if 93.5 or 103.1 is being used in Tuggers; haven’t bothered to check.
I didn’t think 93.5 would be available in Tuggeranong because of Eagle FM?
They have used 93.5 in the past. Eagle barely gets into the Tuggeranong Valley so that’s why they can get away with it. But Eagle FM is utterly dominant up here.
It’s a wonder then that SKY wasn’t given 107.7 and 2GN given 94.3… anyway that horse has bolted.
93.5 is probably just good enough for a temp broadcast- particularly in the cooler months- but would cop too much interference to be allocated permanently in Canberra.
I think all of the TAB’s high powered FM frequencies should be surrendered and stuck on AM/LPONs but there’s too much money to be made in gambling for that.
They should not be using radio spectrum for TAB. If people want to listen to such broadcasts they can go online. Australia makes gambling too accessible. Plus such sections in newspapers should also be banned. Don’t get me started sport betting ads. Eagle FM plays good music I used to live on the northern side and the reception was quite adequate.
That would have been the ideal option. 96.7 could be repurposed for 2GN now the community licence in Queenbeyan hasn’t been renewed. Perhaps 99.5 could be made available for future TCBLs in Queenbeyan.
96.7 is still on air but operating under a temporary licence. It’s clear that no other entity in Struggle Town is willing/able to compete for the licence, so the status quo may be maintained, allowing QBN to do whatever it wants.
Northern side of Goulburn or Canberra or a village north of Goulburn?
North of Canberra
Yes Eagle fm is pretty good at Eaglehalk at Sutton just outside the ACT.
You loose it as you cross the ACT border and come down the hill into Canberra.
Think you mean 99.7.
