Exactly I lived In Bunbury back In the 90s the ABC don’t have to provide coverage from Perth as it’s covered by the Busselton transmitter. When I was living In the region there were early plans to Introduce commercial FM Radio & people were complaining that they would loose reception of Perth TV, A lot of work had to be done at the transmitter site to the point where GWN, ABC & ABC Classic FM would go off air during the day at the same time Triple J was just about to undertake test transmissions.
Ace Radio don’t mess around the consultation for the Hamilton LAP hasn’t even closed & they are already putting up 3HA-FM no doubt like Wangaratta they will start test transmissions within 2 months.
I think that’s just pre existing branding for their Portland frequency. They do similar having “Gold FM” branding for the Gold 1242 translator in Bairnsdale.
It’s weird how so few stations promote their translators well - I wonder how many people listen to scratchy reception of main sites because that’s the frequency promoted on air, while not knowing there’s a clearer local station?
Gold in Gippsland even mention the FM frequency first even though the majority of listeners are probably within the 1242am area. “Gippsland’s Gold, 98.3 FM, 1242am”.
But wouldn’t the majority be listening via FM?
A lot of stations in the US do this. They promote the hell out of their FM translators and the old AM frequency is just an afterthought.
Not easily. It’s so weak in Sale and not even listenable in the Latrobe Valley. 98.3 FM basically just covers Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance.
Ah ok, but what about Bendigo?
Wrong Gold, you’re getting confused! Bendigo and Gippsland are miles apart but admittedly both Gold stations in both areas use 98.3.

Ah, ok. I’m always a bit confused by Victorian geography lol
That Gold IDs as “Gold Central Victoria, FM98.3 and AM 1071”
Does anyone have the audio of 6WF’s last few minutes of audio (before the closure message started?)

When does the transmitter get switched off? If it has been switched off already, please upload a recording of it.
Its supposed to be today sometime, if not already done.
Happened just after 6pm Perth time I’m told
I think it switched off a few minutes ago.
