AM To FM Conversions

Yeah that’s why we fixed the issue as quick as we could….
My guess is the signal gets more skywave on a single tower and therefore travels and gives 2RG a hiding

When it is directional the 5kW doesn’t affect 2RG to my knowledge very much

Drove through Taree this morning on the way to Port Macquarie.

Can confirm that 1557 2RE is now OFF air.

Thanks for confirming this. I had heard that they weren’t switching it off at all.

In Port Macquarie, now getting 2GF on 89.5!

No mention of the frequency as yet, they just ran their ID that mentions 103.9 for Maclean.

Reception not strong enough for RDS, it drifts in and out a bit.

I’ll go up to one of the Coffs headlands after work and see if I can decode any RDS on 89.5.

I’ll be up in Coffs on Thursday too, with a day trip to Yamba on Friday before back to Newcastle on Saturday.

Will report on anything new I see or hear as well.

Bad timing being in Coffs on Thursday. Coffs Cup day, lol.

No sign on 2GF 89.5 at Boambee Headland late this afternoon. It must be only on at certain times at the moment.

Thanks for checking!

Didn’t know about Coffs Cup Day, thanks for that… I already had accommodation booked anyhow.

I’ll try again over the next few days for 89.5 too.

There’s no entry in ACMA’s RRF as yet, so it’s probably
early (erratic) days with their testing.

I checked again a couple of times in the last hour, it’s still on air (or least is again now).

89.5 on this morning. I can confirm no RDS yet.

Still testing and tuning to get 104.7 and 89.5 purring along together.
RDS for 2GF will hopefully commence when the service officially starts which shouldn’t be that far away now.

When do you think 1206 will be switched off Paul?

I have heard that 3WM Horsham is converting to 96.1? Will 1089 kHz switch off?

Looks like it may be a new Ararat translator only, but some sources state that AM will switch off:

No.
96.1 is just a repeater in Ararat, not for the whole licence area.

Thanks for that. Somebody has their wires crossed, pardon the pun.

it was every only a change for Ararat and Ararat only, your source was wrong

Let’s check a bit that all the remaining AM commercial services in the Kangaroo land (excl. ABC, Narrowcast, 9Radio, 3MP):

Tasmania

  • 7SD Scottsdale - 540AM (secondary option, three FM transmitters are currently promoted as the primary option) (ARN)

Victoria

  • 3GG Warragul/Gippsland - 1531 AM (Capital)

(i think i can list up to this point - anyone can help @myfriend?)

4KZ Innisfail/Tully - 531 KHz
4AM Atherton/Mareeba - 558 KHz (relay 1422 KHz Port Douglas)

Also 3GG is on 531 KHz. It’s part of the Capital Radio Network which is now owned by iHeart. There are many other AM stations that are part of the Capital Radio Network.
