Watching a Microsoft Flight Sim video around Townsville tonight has made me realise why the Townsville North translators exist. There is a relatively small area of the city to the north of the CBD that is shaded from Mount Stuart by the fairly diminutive Castle Hill. The shadow cast by Castle is fairly small and explains the very low wattage of these transmitters.
The situation in Townsville immediately reminds me of Albany in WA, which also has a large hill in its town centre, necessitating the 106.5 Hot FM translator for the CBD.
Speaking of Townsville, I had Power 100 burying (s)hit 100.7 from Tuggeranong driving through Queanbeyan today. RDS at one point as well, as was (s)hit 103.1.
I drove the Tesla to Sydney and sitting at the new Italy (40 km south of Ballina, around 25o km south of Brisbane) and was able to pick up abc sport on DAB.
I generally only had a quick scan when I was charging (otherwise itās this great book series Iāve been powering though called Dungon Crawler Carl) so itās mostly been somewhat central and not moving but Iāve had no issues picking up something. May not be my taste but Iāve always got something
I am imagining what I could had got have I been at home than on holidays in South East Queensland. Only thing significant here in SEQ is Mt Dowe including 2KY on 95.9. Although knowing Dxnerd, would had probably got them this morning back in Bowral anyway.
Now briefly getting Middle Brother on 98.7 in SEQ.
I donāt know if itās been posted on the forums anywhere yet and donāt really know where to post this but Melbourneās NYE station from the Eureka Tower on 99.7 is now active as of yesterday, I was flicking through yesterday when it was just a carrier. Has RDS too. Coverage is pretty good, itās making it to the northern suburbs pretty well!
