Currently getting 7ABC 93.9 Hobart, but very variable.
I was down on the Mornington Peninsula in Rye and decided to do a quick bandscan on my carâs radio.
Coast FM, MIXX 95.9 and MIXX 106.3 all decoded RDS and King island radio was coming in very strongly. I also surprisingly got full RDS on ABC 96.1 Warburton.
Admittedly it was hard to tell, but Iâm going to say it didnât appear to extend up to Mildura as I only got News Radio from Loxton on 93.9, it didnât sound the same as 7ABC Hobart. So it wasnât a big opening at least.
2SSR is apparently still off air. Thereâs a rare opportunity to get 99.7 Griffith via aircraft scatter. TVCL West would probably be the best for that.
The Sun has been active again lately which may explain the unseasonal Es yet again. I think solar activity is expected to continue, so it may be prudent to check space weather regularly.
I only had 7ABC briefly, and nothing else.
Some mild lift tonight, the NEW FM over modulation seems to be reduced, was able to resolve even weak Hit Kempsey and Triple M Orange on 105.1 at different times, though you can still hear NEW bleeding though in some spots, but not as bad as it was. 105.5 is a little worse, but still had SBS Canberra strong enough for a brief RDS decode at one point.
94.1 Todayâs Country overmodulation also seems to be reduced too, can now hear static on 93.9 and 94 3, was able to hear a weak Sky Goulburn a few times too. Still no RDS though, at least not as it should be.
They posted this on their website:
However, you can still keep listening via our website via computer, laptop, tablet or mobile phone.
We apologise for the inconvenience but this is totally out of our control.
We will return on the radio waves after Easter.
Wishing everybody a Happy and Safe Easter.
2SSR Management.
Dear 2SSR Management,
Thanks for going off-air in Sydney. We are currently listening out for Hit99.7 Griffith and if successful, then this will be our greatest achievement this Easter.
We are FM DXers listening out for radio stations that canât be usually received in that area, in this case, Sydney. Some of us reside in Sydney, while others like me are remotely DXing using public webservers.
You have a happy and safe Easter DXing with your radios if you wish to join in on the fun.
Yours truly,
@Radio_TVGuy and the MediaSpy team

Seems odd to get a power outage that long in Sutherland and over the Easter break as well. Nevertheless, good luck for DXers.
Strong Wide Bay signals plus Rockhampton ABCs this afternoon/night.
Edit: Gladstone coming in as well.
I just happened to catch 106.1 Classic FM Newcastle off air for a brief period.
Tried for an exotic GNFM Crookwell or similar catch, but all i could hear was mixing of two (or more) stations, most likely NEW and Hit (being on opposite sides).
probably most likely KIIS & Triple J Sydney though.
Never say never at your location, but 106.1 Crookwell is a notoriously hard catch, especially to the north.
I know, even @Dani-Chan has never received it on the Southern Highlands
@anon71206228 I recall after NEW FM started and before Triple J started, even around Hamilton, I could hear 2NUR and NEW mixing on 102.1.
Goulburn, Stanthorpe, Gundagai are other locations where Iâve seen this occur too.
I just think we donât notice it much so much in the larger towns because there are more stations around to mask it?
The common factor with these towns is a tx thatâs in the town or very close to it. Gundagai (Mt Parnassus) is right in the town, Goulburn Mt. Gray is just to the east and I think Stanthorpe is on the outskirts of town as well.
Mount Sugarloaf isnât right in suburbia but overlooks most of Newcastle and is also at very high power. Goulburn is probably the worst because itâs a high power site.
These issues donât happen in Sydney or at Brisbane which also overlooks the CBD.. it must be something that was done incorrectly at inception at these sites.
I dare âalsoâ suggest tighter filtering (several stage cavity filters) on the higher powered metro FM BCB stations txs to prevent spurious emissions interfering with the much lower powered community FM stations in the metro area, airport txs & other services serving same area etc.
Yeah likely a combination of the two, tx right in town plus laxer and lazier broadcast engineering for the rurals.
Went for a long round trip to Blayney today to finally sort out the matter of the 2BS translators.
88.1 Burraga is totally off air. No trace was heard even at Burraga.
89.3 Blayney is on air but faulty. You have to be within 5 km of town to hear it. At first I thought it was carrier only but the audio is there at extremely low levels. Video to follow.
90.1 Sofala is at full power but only a blank carrier.
Didnât check 105.5 Oberon but was off/weak carrier only when I last visited about six months ago.
107.9 Yass was also running carrier only; noted in the Sky Sports Radio thread.
88.0 on air in Goulburn at last and relayingâŚwait for itâŚForever Classic 70s! No RDS though. This lasted a fair way out too; last reception was at Gearys Gap Lake George so I daresay it would be receivable from the Bungendore DX hill.
100.7 Goulburn has RDS â60sMusicâ. Not sure how long theyâve had this; will check 97.5 Queanbeyan tomorrow.
IMD still bad on 92.7 and 95.1 in Goulburn, but does not travel too far out of town. IMD on 107.9 has ceased, perhaps due to 107.7?
I would question that.. as when I was out there last November, I donât recall getting much reception back towards Bathurst or Ilford, yet back in the old 2BS AM days, I could get it in Orange.
Had the carrier strong around Newbridge which is south of Bathurst. Didnât go to Orange.
