I suppose that should say “Mudgee/Gulgong”. 93.1 and 97.1 show up as being broadcast from “Magpie Hill Gulgong” on the ACMA’s lists, but the licence area is ‘Mudgee’.
The ACMA had listed a single station licensed to ‘Gulgong’, which is the SBS retransmission on 104.7. But this might be gone now.
Not that I recall. WA AM stations really are too far away to reliably pick up at night. Doesn’t help a lot of them conflict with the east coast frequencies which block them out. I’ve had better luck getting their FMs via sporadic E however.
I’ve received some WA AM stations in Melbourne during the middle of winter using my Sihuadon D808. My backyard seems to be relatively free from interference which makes it good for AM DXing.
The WA stations I recieved were:
MMM Narrogin 918khz
MMM Merredin 1098khz
MMM Esperance 747khz
ABC Northam 1215khz
For AM, you can get an SDR that covers the whole MF/HF band at once and lets multiple people tune independently. Or you can choose to record the entire AM band and playback whatever frequency you want at a later point in time.
Sadly I can’t seem to connect to it, so I’ll ask instead.
Is this one of those KiwiSDR modules? If so I’m looking at picking one up one day, they really are the gold standard for HF. Especially since they do every single modulation type out there, even DRM.
Sorry – my IP address changed overnight when my ISP did maintenance. Here’s the new link: http://202.130.218.152:58080 (although it’d be better to check at night time, as there’d mostly just be local AM during the daytime).
Not the KiwiSDR, but something similar to that. It uses the same software as KiwiSDR, but can do 0–64 MHz at the same time. Cheaper too, I think.
There’s only 1 public channel available, however, as I use 11 out of the 12 channels for automatic monitoring and logging of FT8 on 11 different bands simultaneously. You can see the reception map here. Usually, it gets around 90–100 countries. Note: The reception report will take a few seconds to load after the map loads.
Can anyone ID what this station is? It sounds like it’s saying “The best songs of all time – 4BK”. But I must be hearing wrong, because there’s no such station on that frequency.
That sounds very much like “The best songs of all time – 4BK” but I can’t make out the bit straight after which might give something away?
To my knowledge there’s no 4BK, which was the Brisbane station that became B105, I don’t even know of any online “fan” stations similar to 2UW & 4IP?
It does sound a very professional voice-over & sounds like someone well known that does or has done in the past those station ID’s.
Did 4BK ever ID as the best songs of all time? It was a CHR station in 1988 sort of sister to 2NX, 2SM, 3XY (even though that was in reality more-so 4IP), when I was in Brisbane for Expo 88 & was the station I listened to whilst there (& anytime I was in Brisbane, I never listened to 4IP) which was not long before converting to FM & becoming B105 with the same format.
Thanks for the replies. Now that you mention the 4LG and Rural Queensland, I can hear it too . I’m putting together an updated AM bandscan video and this was one of the more difficult ones to ID.
To show how far 4LG goes, I’ve picked it up all the way over in Adelaide several times at night. It’s a semi regular in Mildura also, if it’s not stormy.
