Britney’s mum.
Why is she on the field?
Uhm because her daughter is seriously injured? Would you go on the field if your child was so severely injured?
Yeah in junior footy. And she’s just broken her leg. She’s not dying. But this is the top level. The match is still underway. The players on the bench aren’t even allowed onto the field. Have you ever seen an AFLM parent or sibling not involved in the game be with a player going into an ambulance? She 100% should not have accreditation to go onto the field of play.
Yeah, you don’t see that happen in AFL, so why would it happen here, unless she has a role with the club we are unaware of.
Yes, so unless she has a role with the club she can wait until the ambulance is off the field. I would think differently should she have broken her back or maybe been knocked out clean for that entire time but this was not the case.
When was the last time an ambulance was required to drive onto the ground? Last I recall at the top level would be 1993 so an extraordinary event.
One of the things I enjoy about women’s Aussie Rules is the camaraderie which has evolved from the lower levels into the top level, if that involves a parent being there for their daughter as she’s taken from the field in an ambulance I think it’s worth excusing. We see parents of players in the men’s comp comfort them in the rooms after an injury without batting an eyelid. The game was stopped and wasn’t waiting for a stretcher to leave so it could immediately restart.
She was obviously in a lot of pain and it was too risky to get her up and in the rooms.
Well duh. I don’t have a problem with the ambulance taking her away. Or her parents waiting at the ambulance gate or in the rooms (can you actually point to a time that that has happened in the AFLM - I can’t). But they shouldn’t be on the field.
Plus it wasn’t like she was knocked out. In a lot of pain but just a broken leg. Not life threatening.
Yet the interchange players and the coach weren’t allowed out of the interchange gates.
Carlton drew their match with Port Adelaide last week and with Fremantle today. That is the first in the competition’s short history.
The Swans suffered a 66-point thrashing to North Melbourne at Melbourne’s Punt Road Oval this evening, 0.1 (1) to 9.13 (67).
It’s the second week in a row a NSW team scored one behind in an AFLW match (last week it was GWS against Adelaide).
No it wasn’t. Last week it GC beat Port. GWS lost to Adelaide
In which they only scored one behind.
This week’s results:
Hawthorn 6.8 44 def. West Coast 6.5 41
Port Adelaide 0.3 3 def by. Adelaide 8.15 63
GWS 4.5 29 def. Carlton 1.6 12
Bulldogs 5.6 36 def by. Geelong 5.7 37
St Kilda 5.4 34 def by. Collingwood 4.12 36
Richmond 3.5 23 def. Gold Coast 3.1 19
Brisbane 8.14 62 def. Essendon 3.0 18
Fremantle 5.6 36 def by. Melbourne 10.6 66
North Melb 9.13 67 def. Sydney 0.1 1
What result shocked you the most?
Pretty typical when you bring new teams in, there has to be a settling in period as they develop. Give it a few years.
The pool of talent (especially in NSW/QLD) isn’t going to be enough to sustain the 4 northern teams unless something changes soon. While it’s a great achievement to have a women’s competition that has parity in terms of the number of competing teams in comparison to the men, it may be putting the cart before the horse a little.
That said, Sydney is running an odd strategy this year - they know they’re not going to win (especially given they had a short period of time together before the season started), so have taken a deliberate approach to blood their roster with experience rather than trying to put the best possible team on the park at any one time.
So they are tanking?
Ruby Sargent Wilson who was the Swans first ever player AFLW player selected on their list, debuted on Sunday afternoon against the Kangas. Straight out of the Academy as well. She played really well accumulating 13 possessions.
I think the Swans (and I’m a Swans supporter), are trying to give as many players experience as possilbe to gauge their ability. It was predicted before the season started that they were probably going to finish on the bottom.
Just have to be patient. As fans we just have to be patient. Montana Ham will be a good player, and will Sofia Hurley. It was just a shame they couldnt land a bit more experience they were chasing. For example Ash Riddell from Kangas. They are seriously undersized in the backline. On Sunday (and I went to the game) Tahlia Randall, Emma King and Jasmine Garner monstered the Swans defenders.
