AFLW

Referencing that swimming case: it is so, so wrong that ‘she’ is allowed to swim in the women’s category. Breaking records easily, but bare in mind ‘she’ was an average swimmer when a male.

So which comp does she (no need for quotation marks) compete in? Do you honestly think she made her decision to transition based on being competitive in NCAA swimming carnivals?

So thanks to McGowan, there are now changes to the schedule for a number of AFLW rounds

ROUND 1

  • Fremantle will now play West Coast at Fremantle Oval, 5:50 WST 8/1
  • Adelaide will now play Brisbane at Noarlunga Oval (South Adelaide), 1:40 CDT 9/1

ROUND 2

  • West Coast will play Gold Coast at Whitten Oval, 12:40 EDT, 16/1\
  • Fremantle will play GWS at Whitten Oval, 5:10 EDT 16/1

ROUND 3

  • West Coast will now play Adelaide at Punt Road, 12:40 EDT, 22/1

ROUND 8

  • West Coast will play Brisbane at Lathlain Park, 6:10 WST 26/2
  • Fremantle will play Adelaide at Fremantle Oval, 12:10 WST 27/2

All games are pending clubs having a minimum of 21 players available.

No I don’t, I’m just saying it is not fair at all.

And it wouldn’t be fair for her to compete in the men’s competition, so what’s the solution?

Ah, yes it would. I don’t have a solution, I’m just expressing my point-of-view.

Wouldn’t be fair at all, she’s not male. If she meets the NCAA’s requirements (which may not be as strict as FINA’s but that’s another argument) let her swim.

As you’re entitled to do, but expect it to be challenged. You use of inverted commas for this swimmer and when describing trans women playing footy earlier are the exact reason sporting bodies like the AFL need to enact and enhance their gender diversity policies. They may not be perfect, but they are a work in progress.

If you want accept people for who they are rather than the genitalia they were born with, their lives would be much easier without your judgement - real or perceived

RE this: I support people to make their own choices and don’t mind what you identify as. I was using the inverted commas to differentiate between what I was talking about (between the leagues and participants), not in any attempt to offend or make any statement regarding anyone’s identity. I apologise and suggest we all move forward.

AFLW starts in 6 days, and I personally don’t think there will be much change between this and last season. Brisbane, Adelaide, Collingwood and Melbourne (in no particular order) are the teams I think will be really challenging for the flag this season. Freo and North will be up there as well, along with Carlton, although I don’t think they quite have what it takes this year without their star Harris (despite her having an underwhelming season last time around, which I think contributed heavily to their finals miss). I expect the bottom 4 to stay the same: I just don’t think they have improved their sides enough, although anything can happen in footy! Gold Coast, Geelong and the WEagles will be battling it out for the spoon, but I’d put my money on the Suns or Cats.

Due to COVID situations in VIC, NSW and SA, today’s AFLW season launch was mostly held online. One absentee was North Melbourne captain Emma Kearney, who later tested positive in two rapid antigen tests.

AFLW clubs in QLD and WA held their season launches (Captain’s Day) in person.

Adelaide won their third AFLW premiership in five years, beating Melbourne 29-16 in this afternoon’s Grand Final at Adelaide Oval. Both teams’ defences performed very well, but the Crows grabbed their scoring chances.
