Will be interesting with Port Adelaide only bidding this year. As they have been focused on the China Clash. I would say Bombers and Hawks join in 2022/23 and Power and Swans in 2023/24.
I am using cricket terms here. The next teams will enter in the seventh season of AFLW, which is scheduled to start at the end of 2022 and finish in March 2023, thus the 2022/23 season.
Ah yes, sorry. Yeah, the next season will not have any expansion, before two come in in the next season and two in the next.
Great news!
Yes, it’s good that all the teams will now be represented, but it will only dilute the talent pool further. This leads to poorer games, and as such people will turn off.
I hope they don’t do the raids like were done initially: taking the best players from teams and spreading them out is only going to make to comp poorer. I’d rather have the teams continue to build, and if that means having half the comp be very bad for a few years to end up with a good quality competition, then I’d rather that. See what Collingwood has done: they were competitive for the first season, then had their team decimated by the new expansion clubs, and were really bad for the next few seasons. Now have built a very strong side, using not many ‘marquee’-type players. (They drafted and picked up players that weren’t top quality, but now are).
Womens footy pioneer Helen Lambert has died.
The Helen Lambert Premiership Cup. Make it happen.
She has the VFL Women’s best and fairest medal in her honour, the Lambert-Pearce medal.
Or at least the B+F (Brownlow equivalent).
The Age reported last night that the next AFL season may be delayed to January 2022 amid uncertainty around the national COVID-19 situation. The season has been due to begin in December as part of a move to maximise the competition’s exposure, but clubs have been told in recent days that the AFL is poised to push the league back to an early January start. Pre-season training had been due to begin next month.
UPDATE 26/8: after consultation with AFL Players Association, the AFL confirmed this morning that the next AFLW season would start in January 2022.
the VFLW Grand Final has been called off, no premiership awarded.
Ridiculous call when there’s one team that’s undefeated in the season.
Same could be said about Footscray in the VFL.
Yes, but there’s not been finals in the VFL. The Pies won every game this season, so should be named premiers. Either way we are the only premiers (minor) this year. So if there’s no major, then the minor surely is the one .
A Richmond AFLW player has tested positive to COVID-19 during a pre-training rapid antigen test on Saturday.
The worst part is heaps of these anti-vaxxers are medical professionals…you’d think they’d be the first to get it…
Are they?
