AFL (2016-2024)

It explains so much

Not by choice, mind you.
But it is true, where I live, you won’t find much Giants gear, let along AFL in general, or even Swans gear. And we’re not far from Blacktown. People don’t give a shit.

Realistically it won’t happen anytime soon, but I personally think the Giants should be moved to Canberra.

The team already takes in the ACT playing three games a season down there.

Possible R5 fixture:
Thursday: Carlton v St Kilda
Friday: Unchanged: Collingwood v Essendon
Saturday: West Coast v Sydney
Unchanged: Geelong v Gold Coast
Western Bulldogs v North Melbourne
Brisbane v Port Adelaide
Sunday: Melbourne v Richmond
Unchanged: Adelaide v Fremantle
GWS v Hawthorn

New Round 5 fixture:

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said at the press conference at lunchtime that the Cats-Suns game would go ahead, but he expected the Suns would not return to Queensland immediately.

Essendon’s Conor McKenna has escaped further punishment for breaching the AFL’s COVID-19 protocol.

Looks like the AFL are going to move away from Melbourne and have mini hubs all around Australia. Should have been done a few weeks ago when we knew there would be crowds all over Australia and not in Victoria.

Everyone in Australia? No idea what any of this about.

The stripes are more closely associated with Collingwood, not Port Adelaide. Definitely not everyone in Australia, maybe those in the football world, but even then arch rivals could say they hate the bars more than they respect them.

And Eddie McGuire has been pissy about them wearing it for the entire time he has been Collingwood president. He is of the opinion that Collingwood should be the only team that wears black and white stripes in the AFL, seeimingly because they ‘got in first’.

Personally I don’t give a rats what any team wears as their home jumper, providing they have a suitable alternative as an away top. Eddie’s Magpies have been notorious for refusing to do this, hence their resistance to another team wearing black and white.

Didn’t Port sign a contract saying that would be a one-off?

Everyone who isn’t a Collingwood supporter. Who doesn’t want to see Collingwood pissed off?

They might be to those in Victoria but they have been worn by Port Adelaide longer than Collingwood.

Technically they didn’t Port Adelaide were established in 1870 and Collingwood 1892. However, I am not all over the history and am not too sure when they adopoted the black and white stripes.

Apparently so. Personally, as a Port Adelaide fan, I wouldn’t mind them being allowed to wear the jumper once a year in their home showdown. I just want the argument to be put to rest its tiresome.

Seriously, it shouldn’t be an issue - as long as Collingwood and Port Adelaide don’t wear them in the same game, it’s fine.

Also, fuck off Eddie.

Look as a Port Adelaide supporter it would be great. But I really don’t care. As long as my team goes out and plays their best I don’t care what they are wearing. But I do think it is quite amusing to see Collingwood a little worried about it. Kochie has one job at the moment and that is to piss Eddie off.

Eddie did say he didn’t mind if they had the prison bars as long as it had their colours. If I was Port Adelaide I would take full advantage of that statement and try and incorporate the tiniest big of teal in their jumper.

They could do something like a teal coloured fist coming out between the black and white bars… one that gets Eddie in the face

They did. Port got the bars in 1902, Pies had it since the start.

Now this I can agree on.

The AFL is investigating a protocol breach by Collingwood players Steele Sidebottom and Lynden Dunn.

Let’s hope it doesn’t get to a stage where Victorian teams can only play against each other, and interstate teams against each other for any considerable length of time. That would be awful for the competition.
