Just run the Nine Radio FM feed.
Huh?
Wouldnât there be a news theme and someone saying this is bla bla bla news with yada yada yada separating the two?
Yeah there is but Iâd say less than 60 seconds total between "most relaxing stationâ and âHundreds of deaths in Ukraine tonightâ
Their weather jingle with the electric piano sound and the seagull sample is really pretty though

Well sadly, thatâs what the news is. A bit of a jolt from something relaxing to news of someone shooting up the place. You canât sugarcoat it.
Sure. But why does 3MP do this? Why not just not have news? Thatâs what Iâm wondering. Do the easy listening crowd really want to hear it? Are they listening to 3MP for the latest about Gaza? I assumed 3MP must be legally obligated or something. Itâs so out of keeping with their format otherwise
As @RabbitEars said, just take the Nine Radio FM news feed. Iâm sure itâll be more suited to the 3MP format.
If there is no legal license requirement for news on commercial radio stations, then Iâm assuming itâs just audience expectation that there is some sort of news service on the station. I could very much be wrong.
is this the syndicated news feed? I think 3MP/Magic might use this already?
Iâm not quite in the know, but it wouldnât surprise me if there is an FM-focused feed for station combos that take Nine (Radio) News. Back in the 2UE/Southern Cross days, I seem to recall there was a AM feed and a FM feed. 2NM and Power FM national news sounded different to each other.
Whatâs FM news? is that different?
Most networks send a feed around :55 to stations which might be a one minute or 90 second news, which is faster paced and more suited to the FM CHR or Hot AC brands.
I have no idea if youâre regional, but for example if you listen to 2DU and ZooFM Dubbo, 2DU gets the TOH news, ZooFM gets the :55 pre record.
There are the news bulletins that Nine provides to stations that want it (via Nine Syndication):
3MP would only have a choice of National News or National State News - Victoria. Otherwise theyâd have to read their own.
There would be an expectation among 3MPâs older audience of a decent news service at the TOH. Not a watered down celebrity gossip type FM news.
But they could probably drop news from evenings after about 8pm and overnight. And probably on weekends apart from the morning.
Back in the 80s when 3MP was based at Frankston they did their own news, they had a newsroom, even had their own helicopter for reporters to chase stories! Their news was relayed to 3SR Shepparton and 3UL Warragul (as both were co-owned with 3MP at the time as part of Associated Broadcasting Services). The budget would be huge. Something you donât see today when radio stations/networks are cutting to the bone.
From 1976 as well. ![]()
Rebel FM uses a syndicated Nine (Radio) News feed, not sure if it is specifically catered for FM. News is hourly at breakfast and drive, otherwise they have one bulletin every 2-3 hours.
Bring back the helicopter I say.
Donât the FM stations have their own news?
