ABC in talks of new show with original MasterChef judges

MasterChef Australia’s three original judges – Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris – are in talks to reunite for a mystery television project.

Six years after Preston, Mehigan and Calombaris last collaborated, executives at the ABC are hoping the three can be brought together to recreate the MasterChef magic in a new culinary program on the public broadcaster.

Why is the ABC so obsessed with reality shows these days?

Who said anything about reality? And what other reality shows re they obsessed with?

Could be a more ob-doc style series, travel, etc.

There’s obvious shift away from scripted drama and comedy to a lot more factual, lifestyle, entertainment shows. Not great.

There was a time we had at least one Australian scripted drama/comedy on air at any time throughout the whole year.

Yes, but producing less scripted drama (not great) doesn’t explain how you think the ABC is obsessed with reality series, which is what my question was?

Because they’re focusing on anything but scripted. When I said reality, I was including all forms of it. Not necessarily saying the new show was going to be a reality competition clone of Masterchef but let’s see what it is.

Okay, but kinda feels like you’re dancing around the fact you said ABC are obsessed with reality but couldn’t back it up or mention a single reality series they are airing?

You seem to be looking for a fight in every topic these days.

Me!? I just asked a question which you conveniently didn’t answer. Challenging ≠ looking for a fight.

Your response now seems as baseless as your original one.
