ABC Entertains - Programs and Schedules (formerly ABC ME)

More production details were announced today including the voice cast. Expected in 2020.

From Thursday 31 October at 7:45am

Two teenage wannabe warrior heroes and a spirited ghost girl master the skills they need to replace an ageing monster hunter by doing his strange supernatural chores.

Every neighbourhood has that one creepy old house. The one where footballs and frisbees get lost over the fence, never to return. Where every night weird noises, monstrous howls and amazing coloured lights blast out from the basement windows, and the lawn is covered in flaming arrow booby traps….

In this neighbourhood, the house belongs to Helsing - and it’s always cast a long shadow over the wild imaginations of his two young neighbours.

To locals, the owner, Old Man Helsing is an eccentric, elderly gentleman, who lives alone with his peculiar pet, Snorp. But to a pair of designated weirdos like Charlie and Pierce he’s a riddle wrapped up in an enigma, clothed in a stinky dressing grown. After strapping on their homemade utility belts and loading up on garlic and stakes, these wannabe warriors bravely cross the creepy threshold, only to find their weird neighbour isn’t a “monster” but a “monster hunter”!

Amazed to hear of his lifetime of holding the forces of darkness at bay from the comfort of his crumbling suburban home (where he stores his bested and bottled foes in a sprawling, Escher styled Archive Room), the boys beg Helsing to teach them his secret arts. Helsing’s been thinking he might be getting a bit old for all of this supernatural stuff. Maybe this is his chance to get… some apprentices? And maybe they could help him work his new smart phone too! You know, help him be “normal” for the first time in his life…

Pairing them up with Que (Helsing’s quirky house-ghost with a taste for adventure) the now completed trio of BFFs are tasked with completing the freaky, bizarre and sometimes downright terrifying chores that will teach them everything they need to know to become a bunch of butt-kicking, nunchuck slinging, “I ain’t afraid of no monster-slime” monster hunters!

But Old Man Helsing’s chores are as bizarre as they are endless. The gang’s afternoon tasks can jump from babysitting an 8000 year old brat of a mummy (who steals their senses and escapes to try pizza for the first time), to re- capturing a monster hand that has gone rogue at their school (before it possesses one of the teachers and gives them a permanent detention). They have to keep it a secret but Charlie and Pierce have finally found something they might be good at, and they’ve also found something they can call their own… learning to protect their world (but mostly their own neighbourhood)!

Together, this rag-tag trio (and Helsing, their supernatural Mr. Miyagi) make a formidable team who are ready to chew gum and do kick-butt chores… but they’re all out of gum! And we’ll come to see them as bumbling, bickering, kind-hearted and awesome heroes- in-training, learning the skills they need to deal with crazy, surreally serious chores the only way they know how… strangely.

The Inbestigators

Monday 11 November 4.35pm

The Inbestigators returns with another 20 brand new episodes.

Little Lunch meets Sherlock Holmes in this delightfully funny whodunnit from the creators of Little Lunch and Upper Middle Bogan. Ezra, Maudie, Ava and Kyle are The Inbestigators. Operating out of the granny flat in Ezra’s backyard, these disparate kids from Grade Five are led by Maudie, a freakishly gifted observer of human behaviour, who manages to solve one thorny school or neighbourhood mystery after another. While every episode offers a compelling puzzle to crack, the show prevails as a character comedy with heart.

Mustangs FC - Season 3

From Wednesday 15 January at 5:00pm

THE FINAL SEASON!

The merger is on like Donkey Kong but how can the Mustangs stand united, in a team that now includes the Wildcats? And how are they going to kick goals in the A league when they’ve also got to handle the complicated business of friendships and feminism? Strap on your shinpads, Mustangs fans, it’s about to go off.

Don’t think I haven’t seen you, biting your fingernails, getting jumpier than kinder kids at a trampoline party, hoping that the whole Wildcats/Mustangs merger rumour was just a bad joke. Well, stand by people of earth, because THIS WAS NOT A DRILL. I repeat, THIS WAS NOT A DRILL. The merger is on like Donkey Kong and the Mustangs are gonna have to kick some balls to get through a tough season, now they’ve moved up to the A league.

With Marnie busy playing at State, Liv is determined that the ‘Stangs are not going to let the Wildcats get the better of them. But it’s hard not to be a Debbie Downer, when it feels like there are so many things to fight about with the Wildcats – who plays what position? Who is the coach? What’s the kit? Liv’s not prepared to concede any ground in a team that is some crazy cat/horse hybrid – it’s enough to give Bindi Irwin nightmares.

And it’s more than a teensy bit annoying that Marnie goes on about State All. The. Time. But as well as being ah-mazing, State equals pressure for Marnie. Most of the other girls on the squad are much older than her and rather than being the leader, suddenly she’s the baby, pedalling hard to keep up. Has Marns got what it takes to secure a regular place on the State team and keep following her dream to become a Matilda one day?

Pressure is pumping on the home pitch too, with the A League pond full of scary sharks hungry for these little Mustang fish. For Ruby, whose sweat and tears (lol – as if Ruby cries) are made with drive and ambition, it’s head down and on with it. But when Rubes realises her soccer dreams in Australia could become a reality, Miss USA will have to decide if this is the right direction for her. Should she be trying to get back to LA… away from everything, and everyone, she loves here? Is it worth risking a good chance at something great, for a slim chance of something better?

Anusha’s gotta have an equation for that right? As she continues to project manage and problem solve with relentless efficiency, it might be time for someone to point out that friends are not “projects” to be managed but actual people with their own great, weird thoughts and ambitions. Or non-ambitions. Can Nush stop trying to put Bella in a box and let her just be? And actually, as our fave Sparkly Girl Lara finds, even if KPIs are reached, doesn’t mean you have to stick with them – it’s OK to change your mind. Sometimes what’s tougher than sticking with a dream, is changing it, especially when that means you’ve gotta woman-up for conversations that are harder than a frozen orange wedge on the winter sidelines.

And some news there is no right way to break. Some news is so bad it hits with the pain and breathless shock of a ball to the guts, and then the only way through is smooshed in the hugs of the mighty mighty Mustangs – the friends, players, young women, that will kick goals, cry, snort laugh and have each other’s backs – forever.

ITCH

From Wednesday 15 January at 5:30pm, 10 episodes

Itchingham “Itch” Lofte lives in the small town of Seaburgh with his mum, Jude and youngersister Chloe, while his dad Nick works away on a remote mining site.

As someone who doesn’t fit in easily to the daily humdrum of Seaburgh life or with the other kids at school, Itch prefers to retreat to his rather extraordinary hobby – collecting all the elements of the periodic table.

Itch is halfway through his goal when one day a local eco activist named Cake gives him an unusually warm rock he found out by one of the old mines following an earthquake. Curious to learn more about it, Itch takes it to school to show his science teacher, Dr Flowerdew. But, when the rock seemingly makes his science class sick, further testing reveals the rock to be highly radioactive – beyond anything on Earth.

Itch discovers that the rock is in fact a new element, tentatively identified as Element 126, a source of clean energy that could both power the world, or potentially destroy it.

As an avid element collector and scientist, Itch is excited to have discovered the new find. But when a mountain biker tries to steal his backpack and his house is robbed, Itch realises someone else is after Element 126, and that he has to stop whoever it is from getting it, unaware that it’s the dark forces of Greencorp, an international energy company with dubious morals, working to get their hands on this fiendish element in order to weaponize it.

Greencorp will stop at nothing to get the rock, but Itch knows that if it gets into the wrong hands the whole world could be in danger. It’s up to him to make sure the rock remains safe before it’s too late. But knowing who to trust proves harder than Itch thinks when he discovers it’s not just Greencorp who are after the rock, but also his science teacher Dr Flowerdew.

In order to save the planet from potential disaster, Itch has to draw on everything he knows– and the contents of his backpack – to keep himself and his family alive.

With no one he can trust except for his cousin Jack, sister Chloe, school crush Lucy, and new school arrival Tim, Itch sets off on a desperate mission to keep Element 126 away from these dark forces and get it to the one person he thinks can help him… his Dad.

Itch, Chloe, Jack, Tim and Lucy are taken on a high-octane adventure that sees Itch use his scientific knowledge and book smarts to outsmart those after the rock as he and his friends risk everything to keep the rock safe and out of the hands of those that wish to use it for sinister means. But all the while, Greencorp’s goons “The Bikers,” and Flowerdew are closing in, and the deadly rock is slowly poisoning Itch, but nothing will stop him from getting the rock somewhere safe.

After escaping Seaburgh to the city, Itch hatches a plan to destroy the rock, but is double crossed by Tim who needs the rock to use as leverage to get his mum out of prison. In one foul swoop, Itch not only loses one of his closest friends, but also his grasp on the rock, sending him on a desperate chase.

Once Itch finally gets the rock back, he embarks on a journey to a remote abandoned mine to destroy it once and for all. But before he can, Tim and Flowerdew arrive at the mine, leading to the final showdown, that sees Tim and Flowerdew plunge into the depths of the ocean.

A sickly Itch then starts the descent into the mine’s underground shaft to get rid of the rock, but as he returns to the surface, a weak Itch slips and falls, only to be saved just in time by Nick and Jack.

Back in Seaburgh, as Itch recovers from radiation poisoning, Greencorp are visited by the police. But just as it seems that the world is safe once again, we discover that Tim and Flowerdew have made it to shore on a faraway beach.

This isn’t over.
