Speaking of hosts - has there been any announcement of who’ll be hosting the AACTA Awards?

Hosts, Performances and Presenters are announced for the 2025 AACTA Awards!

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) is thrilled to announce Russell Crowe as the host of the 2025 AACTA Awards Ceremony presented by Foxtel Group. There is so much talent in this country, Russell Crowe as a marvellous host, so many fine achievements to salute and music is such a big feature this year - remarkably including two big films and performances, Robbie Williams performs “Angels" from the movie about his life “Better Man” and Paul Kelly performs “How to Make Gravy”, his song that inspired at the movie of the same name.”

Whether you are a film fan, a budding creative, a pop culture enthusiast, or a dedicated industry professional, AACTA Festival offers a unique opportunity to network, learn, and revel in the magic of film and television.

Great to see Henry Cavill as a presenter for this year’s awards, as he is filming the latest Voltron movie on the Gold Coast.

Not more Robbie :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

He certainly has been popping up a lot lately. But I understand why he is it the AACTA Awards. His film Better Man swept up all the nominations for these awards.

Good to read that Russell Crowe will be the host of the main awards.

Commentary

Not only are there 4 international titles, but they are ALL Netflix titles (which must really irk Free to Air networks, as well as Foxtel which is a major sponsor of the event).

An AACTA spokesperson has also confirmed voting for Audience Choice Awards is open to anyone. Australian-based addresses or phone numbers are not required. Organisers only collect personal data if someone wants to enter a competition which runs in conjunction.

That means anyone outside Australia could also enter, unless the polling was geoblocked.

How else to explain how Outer Banks is suddenly one of Australia’s favourite TV shows?

Not the best list of nominees there, to be honest. I agree with David Knox’s comments over on TvTonight (and there comments too). The awards for Best Film and Best TV Show should be for Australian content only.

I am completely out of my league for the Favourite Australian Digital Creator, so I can’t comment on that one though.

With the Awards just six days away, i am yet to see any commercials from 10 about them.

A five seconds long promo was shown during I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here tonight.

AACTA’s getting a bit of promotion on 10 News First Qld this evening.

Included an interview with British actor Jonno Davies, who played Robbie Williams in Better Man.

Almost more promotion there than 10’s given it.

No interviews anywhere with host (and AACTA President) Russel Crowe?

I can’t wait until 7.30pm to watch the ceremony. Some years, the coverage is fairly good. Other years, not so much - with terrible editing, and major awards omitted. Hoping tonight is for the better. Obviously.

Going to an ad break, and already had a “these awards were handed out earlier in the night” - Best Supporting Actor, and Actress, in a Drama Series. While an extended ad for some Binge show was shown during the telecast which no-one seemed interested in.

It was a good start to the show having the Best Drama Series, Best Comedy Entertainment Series, Best Actor and Best Actress at the start of the show.

Also the Brian Walsh Emerging Talent Award. The winners for two out of three of those awards weren’t there but it would be disappointing for Lee Tiger Halley not to have his acceptance screened or even the prerecorded acceptance speeches for Deborah Mailman and Kartanya Maynard.

I think it has been a good start to the awards too. Looks like they might show all the TV Awards first, then the Film Awards later (so far). Airing the Best Drama Series, Best Comedy Series, Best Actor and Best Actress is great.

I also feel sorry for Lee Tiger Halley for not airing his speech. I know that Binge will show the whole ceremony later. But not the same.
