A Current Affair (2015-Feb 2025)

Especially as he ages, we know how that affects peoples ability to work!

By the same argument, you could say that the timing might suit her to return to work full-time by the time Tracy actually retires.

However, if you look at the history of hosts and the way they use Tracy as the selling point, any successor will have to be a ‘household name’ IMO. So that’s not Leila and definitely not Sylvia. Maybe Deb. But my money is on Karl.

Obviously instead of Today entirely.

That’s the point I’m making though - Tracy would probably need to keep at it for another decade for the timing to work for Leila family-wise, by which time she will be 60 herself (as would Karl and Deb).

Yes, 60 year olds are perfectly capable of working. But Nine would clearly go for somebody younger with the potential to carry the show for another 2-3 decades.

Of course, this assumes that the show even exists in a decade…who knows.

Paxtons, Corey Worthington, the Cangai siege interview, topless sales assistants in a hardware store… You could fill that giant hole in Willoughby where the Nine studios once stood with the vapid, trite sensationalist pablum that show has excreted over the years and still have room for all the dodgey tradie yarns.

Nosy neighbours, dodgy builders, cheapest supermarket chains, back pain cures, pricey petrol stations… etc. Will any of them make the top 50?

Guessing there will be a special bulletin coming up soon, looking at the past 50 years?
