A STORY SO BIG WE CANT TELL YOU!

It’s like one of those annoying friends on Facebook who does vague posts.

Do you think its under wraps so they can’t get it stopped or they are waiting for a embargo to release it? How big can it be?

I have a feeling its probably got to do with politics or the police raids on the media?

I think it’s got to do with all those scientific papers which weren’t substantiated.

That promo definitely makes me want to watch this week .

The promo says it’s a joint investigation with SMH and The Age, so I think there will be a preview in The Sun-Herald and Sunday Age this Sunday.

Here’s the story which apparently “will rock the foundations of Australia”

Have to fell a bit sorry for the journalists who no doubt worked extremely hard on this story, only to have it possibly remembered best for an OTT promo that seems to almost mocking in tone.

It was a State of Origin style promo. Important story … but not earth shattering and a rubbish promo.

Casinos and Corruption is hardly anything new and earth shattering.

I was expecting some form of breakthrough of MH370 or something.

Exactly.

A story on Crown’s links to organised crime syndicates is an important one which I daresay is also something that Packer-era Nine would never have allowed to go to air, but promoting it as one that “will rock the foundations of Australia” is extremely over the top.

Looks to be unprecedented tonight as Nick McKenzie is the one reporting for both 60Minutes and SMH. Has a newspaper journo reported for 60Minutes before?

Certainly in the style of Fairfax/4 Corners investigations where he’d do the TV report as well.

Mike Munro, Ian Leslie and George Negus all started their careers as journalists in newspapers.

It actually does look and feel like I’m watching an ABC report. Feels odd to be on 60Mins, Nine should’ve just done this as a special report instead.

CROWN UNMASKED - A MAJOR INVESTIGATION

60 MINUTES • The Sydney Morning Herald • The Age

A six-month joint investigation by 60 MINUTES , The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald has exposed a corporate scandal unlike anything Australia has seen before.

Investigative reporter Nick McKenzie and producer Grace Tobin obtained tens of thousands of documents and internal files from Crown , Australia’s largest casino operator. It’s one of the biggest leaks of information to the media in this country’s history and explains what was going on inside the business in the lead up to Crown’s darkest hour: the arrest and imprisonment of 19 of its employees for breaking strict gambling laws in China.

For the first time one of those employees has also spoken publicly about her ordeal. Jenny Jiang was a trusted worker in Crown’s Shanghai office until she was detained by Chinese police. She says she grew concerned Crown was breaking Chinese laws and felt pressured to comply with its demands. However, in her time of need, she says felt the company abandoned her. She insists Crown was motivated purely by profit.

“Money is way more important than the staff,” Ms Jiang told McKenzie and Tobin.

As 60 MINUTES revealed, the damaging leaked documents also proved:

  • Crown’s inappropriately close relationships with known crime figures with links to drug importation and alleged human sex trafficking; and
  • Crown’s power to fast track Australian visas for Chinese high-roller gamblers (some with dubious backgrounds) through Crown-friendly staff at Australian consulates in China.

McKenzie and Tobin’s investigation provides ample evidence for law enforcement and gaming regulators in Australia to pursue further enquiries into the ability of Crown to conduct its business in a lawful manner.

Certainly copping a belting across socials.

Maybe they went the wrong way about it promo wise. Did they really need to go to the lengths of the ACA type headline pull rubbish.

Should have probably gone down the ‘exclusive’ route without hiding the whole thing. You can’t hide things these days they always leak beforehand.

Can’t feel the foundations shaking sorry Nine.

Yeah I feel like it was a bit of a fizzer.

People are like “Oh rich people/organizations being corrupt? What else is new?”

People just accept that stuff now.
