Opposition Leader Peter Dutton was in Darwin this (Saturday) morning, where he stopped to make a funding announcement for a local footy club, the Palmerston Magpies.
Dutton and his entourage, including Northern Territory senator Jacinta Price, then headed down to the oval for a casual kick with a group of children. Cameramen took their positions to get the shot the Coalition’s media team had come for. But after kicking the footy back and forth, one from Dutton’s boot went awry.
The ball went straight towards 10 News First cameraman Ghaith Nadir, who was filming the exchange, knocking his camera into his head and resulting in a bloodied forehead. “Got him,” Dutton said jokingly as the ball connected.
Nadir was attended to by his media colleagues and Australian Federal Police personnel, and Dutton approached him to check he was alright. The opposition leader offered him a beer in apology, and the pair shook hands. Nadir laughed with colleagues afterwards, bandage wrapped around his head.
According to the guide’s, it looks like ABC News Channel will be broadcasting Your Say forums on the next two Wednesday’s between 3pm and 4pm.
This Wednesday will be one on energy policy presented by Ali Moore from Melbourne, while the following Wednesday will be one on housing policy presented by Ellen Fanning from Brisbane.
Feeling like 7’s coverage is more balanced atm rather than showing a bias to the coalition.
Tim Lester travelling with Dutton is a good move.. he’s actually asking him decent questions about policies (or lack of).
The opener mentioned an LNP policy backflip.
There’s another opinion poll out; and surely a wrap of the weekend, or where the leaders are heading today? That’s the usual..
4BC DRIVE HITS THE HUSTINGS WITH ITS ELECTION ROADSHOW
COME ON DOWN AND GET INVOLVED
Starting today, 4BC Drive host and former Federal Minister, Gary Hardgrave, will return to the campaign trail, broadcasting live from five key South-East Queensland battleground electorates to highlight the issues that matter to locals in the upcoming election.
Beginning this afternoon in Caboolture, his aim is to talk to as many constituents and candidates as possible this week, to see what voters and politicians are thinking in the battleground seats, hear what’s working for them, and find out what needs immediate change before election day, May 3.
Hardgrave said: “Elections are about real people and real issues. That’s why we are taking our roadshow to the far corners of South-East Queensland.
“I want to hear the unique concerns of people in the outer metropolitan areas. They are the ones carrying the burdens of cost of living increases, poor planning and poor infrastructure, and it’s important that they have their views not only heard but acted on.”
From 3.00pm to 6.00pm AEST every day this week, Gary Hardgrave and the 4BC Drive team will broadcast their election roadshow live from these locations:
Monday, April 7: Caboolture Square Shopping Centre (Longman)
Tuesday, April 8: Meadowbrook Shopping Centre (Forde)
Wednesday, April 9: Booval Fair (Blair)
Thursday, April 10: Albany Creek Village (Dickson)
Friday, April 11: Wynnum Plaza (Bonner)
Listeners are welcome to come on down, say hello, and get involved.
The Seven Network’s 7NEWS has tonight released its latest Election Needle prediction, revealing a lean towards Anthony Albanese remaining as Prime Minister, if an election was held today.
This represents a small swing towards the Prime Minister, as Peter Dutton cops backlash from the electorate over his work from home policy backflip.
7NEWS Political Editor Mark Riley said: “Labor continues to have the upper hand in this campaign. Anthony Albanese remains on message and proactive, while Peter Dutton has backflipped on his work from home policy, causing angst among female voters. This shift has only strengthened the perception that Albanese is the more stable choice.”
7NEWS ELECTION NEEDLE:
The 7NEWS Election Needle is based on expert analysis and data from a team of more than one dozen journalists, statisticians, political scientists and researchers, led by veteran 7NEWS Political Editor Mark Riley, with leading political scientists Dr Simon Jackman and Dr Luke Mansillo.
It’s informed by weekly data of every poll across the country, collated by respected research company Painted Dog Research.
It indicates who is in the best position at any given moment to form government, cutting through information overload to give Australians an immediate pulse-check on the upcoming Federal Election.
On election night, the Needle will move in real-time to call victory between the Labor Party and the Coalition first.
The ABC will delve deep into the issues Australians care about most in the lead up to the federal election across a series of national You Say Forums, commencing Wednesday 9 April at 3pm AEST on ABC Radio and ABC News Channel.
The 55 minute special forums will break down the issues, questions and concerns submitted by Australians via the ABC Your Say project.
The Your Say project gives all Australians an opportunity to have their voice heard in the national conversation. To date, the vision for Australia’s energy transition, power bills, housing stress and the future of the US alliance are of most concern.
The first of three Your Say forums will be hosted by ABC Radio Melbourne’s Drive presenter Ali Moore. Your Say: Powering Australia will break down the major parties’ energy policies and present the facts from some of the country’s leading experts. The forum will be politician free and include questions and comments from Your Say submissions.
Your Say forums include:
Wednesday 16 April – Your Say: Housing Australia, hosted by ABC Radio Brisbane’s Drive presenter Ellen Fanning.
Wednesday 30 April – Your Say: Future Australia, hosted by ABC Radio Sydney’s Mornings presenter Hamish Macdonald.
The Your Say forums will simulcast nationally across all local ABC Radio stations and ABC News Channel from 3pm AEST. ABC Radio nationally will continue the conversation from 4pm AEST, giving Australians the opportunity to connect with their local community.

was talking about the Middle East just minutes before hand.
