It’s the 4:30pm backdrop. Just saw it on 7 News Perth FB page.
The only true thing in your entire post was that the numbers are a lot healthier for Seven News than they were a year ago
@antonio1987 seems like you really like Fergo. I have to say that although he is a formal and good presenter, unfortunately for Sydney viewers they don’t like him, and I don’t particularly think he deserves the Sydney 6pm bulletin, let alone Sydney’s No.1 Newsreader. Peter Overton, Georgie Gardner and Deb Knight on the other hand are stellar presenters on Nine.
Personally I also believe that Seven really messed up their Sydney presenters in the past years, with a constant rotating door of presenters moved around. First Chris Bath was dumped (she should’ve never been dumped as she is a stellar presenter), then her resignation and Mel Doyle’s appointment, and then Michael Usher’s appointment one year later. Sports-wise, Mel McLaughlin should’ve been appointed weekend sports presenter, or just a sports reporter as Jim, Ryan and even Matt Carmichael is miles ahead of Mel. Lastly, the move from Sarah Cumming to Brownie could’ve been handled better, but who wouldn’t want a meteorologist to present the weather in comparison to someone else who might not know anything about weather.
Even when Usher was appointed, they could’ve made him and Melissa Doyle a double header in Sydney and move to weeknights as they’re both very much capable of leading Seven News Sydney to No.1. Fergo could do weekends instead (even though GG will flog him anyway), and Seven News Sydney would probably gain more grounds than Fergo is doing these days anyway.
Just my personal opinion, so don’t shoot me please…
Here are the past Friday News ratings back to the first week after the Olympics ended. One Cricket day omitted because Nine News didn’t start until closer to 7pm.

Christmas Day 2014
When the set contains LCD’s how hard would it be now to add something festive to the display this year?
Mel & Michael sounds like a news presenting duo that I think Sydneysiders would probably really like watching, but I doubt it will ever happen. Seven’s past track record in dual-presented bulletins in the Sydney market isn’t crash hot and the city’s most popular TV news bulletins have generally always been those fronted by a single newsreader.
The initial post was referring to Gardner up against Bath, Doyle and Ferguson - not the last couple of months. Extend your ratings to the past two plus years.
Talking about the Ross Symonds and Ann Sanders vs the legendary Brian Henderson era right? While I am at it, you do have to remember that Ten Eyewitness News used to win in Sydney with Ron Wilson/Tim Webster and Katrina Lee/Ann Sanders, so in that sense, that statement doesn’t hold water.
Exactly. Just as how many people wanted Mel Doyle to be partnered up with Chris Reason for weeknights. But if that was to ever happen, I personally think that Musher is a better fit, as he is a much better anchor than Reaso. In saying this however, ratings probably won’t be affected as long as Pete Overton stays on Nine News Sydney.
Unfortunately, this does also mean that we have to stick with Fergo for at least another year as he has proven wins as a main anchor on Seven News Sydney in recent months, and network management will probably think that Fergo is doing them wonders when it’s really The Chase that’s helping them (or because Fergo is scared of Musher taking his place, so he is trying to better himself).
Not really. I only mentioned that I thought she often lost Friday nights. You said that was “Wrong”. See figures to prove she does.
As I said, look at the ratings over the past 2+ years, rather than basing your statement on the last 15 weeks and you will quickly discover you are wrong. She has won more Friday nights than she has lost.
Just had a look at all of 2016 from Feb onwards…
7 News wins on Friday at 6 - 17
9 News wins on Friday at 6 - 23
Very close. So you are correct. Georgie does win more Fridays than she loses, just not in the second half of the year. Imagine if Pete lost close to half the time like Georgie does!
It happened again tonight! This time Kay looked like she rolled her eyes.
Bill and Sharon opener used again tonight while Kay was hosting. Kay didn’t look impressed.
And she has every reason to. Don’t think Seven is treating their best talent very well there in Queensland.
Just very unprofessional… They would be better off just going generic rather than stuffing it up all the time
With thanks to Media and Transport Channel (aka, @Abesty):
There was also a Sally Bowrey version IIRC.
I thought it only lasted a few weeks, if even that. Like a lot of Seven News’ On-Air Presentation elements at that time, it certainly didn’t last very long!
Yes, I distinctly remember she was wearing a bright yellow top in it.
That is it thanks.
Last week she slightly smiled, this week she appeared to roll her eyes.
Video - almost looks like Kay is deciding whether to look up or not - includes previous night with correct v/o.
