This looks new
Hang on, I thought Nine News were number 1 in S.E. QLDâŚ
Poor promo, feels dated.
Great to see Seven using their sets well in Sydney tonight with Mark Ferguson and the side plasmas displayed.
Bit pointless when one of the screens is blank blue?
Another few shots with the screens not blank.
It may be an unpopular opinion on here (and I will admit up front that I have been a 7 News watcher when I do watch at 6pm as I am not usually home and end up with ABC at 7pm or non FTA options), but 7 in Sydney has done a fair bit of work on their bulletin this year and what I saw tonight was a very polished product:
- Graphics are nothing too flashy but they are audience friendly and cohesive which they werenât 6 months ago
- Story selection tonight seemed solid and the pacing of the hour was good from what I could tell
- Strong set of reporters
- Good use of set
- A good ad break teaser about half way through the ad breaks
- Presenters all quite competent and Mark carried the bulletin well. I have never been a Mark-hater but have mentioned many others who could take his place and excel (Usher!!).
Overall I can see why 7 are in a stronger position than they were in 12 months ago (or even 6 months ago). With a weekly win last week something must be catching peoples attention as well. The Chase viewers canât hurt either⌠but why all of a sudden would the lead in = a win when it hasnât for most of this year? There is something enticing viewers to stay on 7 rather than switch, even in the second half hour.
Could it be better, yes (everything could). With Nine relaunching in the not too distant future and Pete Overton an incredible anchor it wonât be easy but overall I think some credit where it is due at the moment.
As far as Nine News is concerned, theyâre currently undergoing a major generational change - both in Sydney and nationally. Weâre probably not going to really feel the full effects of that next generation Nine News for another six months or so. Some of the changes (like the new graphics and a move to automation in Sydney/Melbourne) have already been made, however thereâs still more to come with the transition from Ken Sutcliffe to Cameron Williams in the Sydney sports chair, new look sets probably launching in Early 2017 and the establishment of regional news services.
From what I remember, Seven News Sydney had some moderate ratings success towards the end of last year. Throughout 2016, Nine News Sydney has won most weeks in the ratings (apart from during the Olympics of course) up until the end of October. Definitely something worth keeping in mind when youâre making predictions for next year.
For like a second.
Nine are number one Mon-Fri
HelloâŚandâŚwelcomeâŚtoâŚsssssssseven newsssssssssâŚgreatâŚtoâŚseeâŚyouâŚfolks
Yeah gimme some of that five hour-long news special pronto with Broughie at the helm
Thanks. The promo says 7 days a week.
I honestly donât get why Seven are bending the rules AGAIN just to suit themselves. To claim the #1 status in a city has always been the most weeks won, and was based on weeknights.
They did it to the Today show when Today didnât include regional numbers, and now theyâve done it to Nine News Brisbane because Nine didnât include weekends.
If youâre going to change the rules, at lease ensure that all parties are aware and agree on the new terms. Enough with twisting it just to suit yourself Channel Seven!
But Queenslandâs No.1 news service is indeed Seven news (Because of regional QLD).
They are but the promo says âBrisbaneâs number 1â, which they arenât to what I understand.
The promo say â7 Days a Week Brisbaneâs No. 1â.
If the average audience for the ratings years so far is calculated to include the weekend bulletins, Seven News currently has a narrow (<2,000) lead over Nine across the hour.
Itâs just another case of networks doing what they want with OzTAM figures. The yearâs news comparisons have always been Mon-Fri with the weekend bulletins receiving different coding in the ratings. So if you look up the OzTAm figures for Seven News any week there will be 4 entries Seven News, Seven News 6.30, Seven News Saturday and Seven News Sunday.
Due to the Australian Open today and tomorrow, Seven is airing a half hour national bulletin in Adelaide and Perth while QLD will presumably get their 1hr bulletin.
EDIT: Paul Kadak is presenting the Afternoon News (National)

Seven News Special: 10 to 1: Countdown Our Greatest News Events moved to 8.40pm
Just spotted a localised Adelaide promo for the 7 News Special during tonightâs 6pm news⌠it mentioned the events that shaped Adelaide, Australia and the world. And as shown below will be hosted by Jane and John.
It appears each state will get their own version?

Yes, I think there are going to be localised versions of the special!
Sydney:
Melbourne:
Itâs confirmed.
Saw a promo on 7Melbourne that Peter Mitchell is doing the Melbourne version.
