Ratings: Nine News, The Chase and Hot Seat hit 2016 ratings highs

It was an afternoon and night for record ratings as Seven’s The Chase recorded its highest audience ever while Nine’s Hot Seat hit a 2016 high.

After recording a record audience just last Monday, The Chase lifted to 775,000 for the 5.30pm segment after 497,000 tuned in at 5pm while over on Nine Hot Seat averaged 693,000. But those weren’t the day’s only records with Nine News recording its highest weeknight ratings for the year nationally as well as in both Melbourne and Brisbane while the Brisbane bulletin of Ten Eyewitness News recorded its best ratings since October 2015.

Nine won the night with a network share of 29.8% up 2 points from last week. This was at the expense of Seven that dropped to 25.4% while Ten (19.4%), ABC (18.7%) and SBS (6.7%) were steady.

Nine got off to a good start with Nine News on 1,258,000 and 1,197,000 and A Current Affair rating 944,000. The Voice, that followed dipped to a season low 1,144,000 but still won at 7.30pm while P!nk – Live in Australia managed 471,000. A split schedule saw Footy Classified with 177,000 in AFL markets and Soundbreaking slumping to just 134,000

Seven News (1,160,000 and 1,062,000) led for Seven with House Rules lifting to 915,000 after Home and Away averaged 787,000 at 7pm. Later, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders was fourth in its timeslot with 466,000 and 380,000.

Ten’s MasterChef made the top ten with 921,000 while Have You Been Paying Attention? recorded a season high 709,000. Earlier, The Project had 681,000 and 520,000, Family Feud averaged 624,000 while Ten Eyewitness News just made the top twenty with 576,000. CSI: Cyber ended its run with 220,000.

ABC News (822,000) and 7.30 (717,000) were best for ABC with Media Watch (631,000), Q&A (605,000) and Australian Story (604,000) all making the top twenty. Four Corners again disappointed with just 535,000.

Ireland with Simon Reeve did well for SBS with 354,000 while Michael Mosley: Trust Me, I’m a Doctor (311,000) was next best.

At breakfast, Sunrise had a rare win with 301,000 while Today slipped to 297,000 and ABC News Breakfast had 109,000 and 49,000.
