Nine Sports Broadcasting

Sometime in the last week. For all international World Cup games. Is this a pre announcement before they become the summer home of soccer (a-league) on free to air?!

going by the Socceroos site, they got the rights today, with the press release out just 15 minutes ago.

There’s a game schedules for Friday morning at 4.45am against Saudi Arabia. Is Nine (aka “Gem”) going to air that game?

All games to be shown on GO! Which makes total sense as it’s always been used for sport… :eyes:

sorry, my bad.
thanks for clarifying it.

All good mate. I am still trying to understand why it’s on GO! too.

NINE NETWORK AND FOX SPORTS STRIKE DEAL TO BROADCAST SOCCEROOS WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

Football fans are the big winners with Nine Network and FOX SPORTS today announcing that the remaining eight Socceroos 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers will be covered by both networks.

Weird it’s on go and not the main channel in HD.

This deal is with some other organsiation and not the FFA as they no longer sell WCQ rights.

Wonder if this is a precursor to nine getting the A league rights. God help the FFA if nine get the rights. It would be a disaster.

Now what will SBS show after sexually explicit programs?

Lagardere Group controls the rights to Asian World Cup Qualifiers. I guess Nine’s experience covering the International Champions Cup impressed Fox Sports to share the broadcast. Nine showed the 2002 FIFA World Cup but a lot of things have changed since then.
News Corp reports Nine will simulcast Fox Sports’ feed of Saudi Arabia v Australia this Friday and Australia v Japan next Tuesday, before most likely putting their own commentary teams in place for the remaining six matches.

Because it’s only soccer !
Nine (or Seven) would not bump the early morning news or Today/Sunrise for what is still a 2nd tear sport in Oz

9Gem’s sporting broadcasts were meant to move to 9Go! in the November 2015 rebrand/brand realignment - surprised it’s taken so long to do so

the new, action-packed FAST5 Netball World Series[/quote]

Fast5 is not new, in case anyone thought so from this press release. There have been a number of Fast5 series before, held in Auckland. It was not held last year because of the Sydney World Cup.

I think they quietly scrapped that move. The Matador Cup Cricket is still airing on 9gem.

Not to mention that the NRL aired on 9Gem for the AFL states all this year.

Personally, I agree that Nine should probably shift all the sport to 9Go! because it would probably be a better fit than 9Gem. It made sense to use 9Gem for sports coverage when it was the HD channel, but not so much anymore since Nine HD launched and 9Gem became SD (in most areas at least).

At least there’s been no sign of Brayshaw during the Matador Cup.

They only used 4 commentators, Healy, Moody, Johnson and Chappell for the Victoria v South Australia game a few days ago in Perth.

Australia vs New Zealand Test will be shown on the main channel next Saturday

Expect Taylor and possibly Clarke (when club commitments allow) to join as the tournament is now Sydney based until the final.

Well, that’s a surprise, in Melbourne and Perth.

According to the eBroadcast guide, only Adelaide has the rugby league Test on 9GEM this Saturday night.

Perth has the game 4.30pm AWST with Nine News at 7,15pm.

Mike Hussey & Brett Lee have departed Channel 9.
9 are also in discussions with Kevin Pietersen and Waqar Younis.
