It appears James is still at it. Last week he pissed off a bunch of TVW veterans, one of whom has paid James to digitize things in the past, by issuing takedown notices for content that was kindly digitized by Seven Lab at BTQ for one of the TVW old timers, and then uploaded to YouTube.

There is no excusing this. I don’t know what James is doing but this is no longer about protecting work he has done (which isn’t his to claim anyway). He’s now issuing takedowns on content that Seven themselves digitized.

The sheer arrogance of this guy is beyond words. And then he posts on social media that he’s being bullied :face_with_raised_eyebrow: He’s literally the one causing the problems.

Rob McKnight said it best. The louder this gets the more likely it is to get attention at Seven and they will take down everything for everyone, including James’ channel.

James does not own any of the content he digitizes and I don’t know how he thinks this is ok.

I have been following what is happening in Ukraine and have found an interesting YouTube work around that is being used by both sides to publish video that doesn’t meet YT’s terms of service:

The video is being uploaded to catbox.moe a file sharing site as mp4’s then they are linking to the mp4’s using a simple free markup page service at rentry.org which basically allows you to create a simple html page with links to the videos. The shortened link to the rentry markup page is then shared in places like Telegram and even less reputable sites.

Often these type of services are associated with fringe loonies but I am increasingly seeing footage there appear on Aussie TV stations and in particular syndicated stories they have picked up. I have even seen direct uploads within minutes of an event happening in Ukraine, so the footage clearly is first person straight off a phone.

Most recent one I saw was a marine accident off Singapore yesterday. The Catbox video was on social media within minutes of the accident. It would likely meet YT’s TOS though but some Ukraine War footage would obviously not. Another issue may also be YT being blocked in Russia. Catbox is just simple file sharing so there is no logo etc unless its on the original video and it retains the EXIF data.
