No. 4pm will remain the same bulletin you’ve come to expect.
This sounds more like an annoying arvo! Aren’t news updates at the same time currently local?
Will Tarsh throw to Alex from the Midday news “and now with your 1pm news, here’s Alex”
Indeed.
We’re serving up the biggest game shows in town with brand new Blankety Blank, Bridge of Lies, The Chase UK and The Chase Australia, with news on the hour.
Watch Seven across the week for the daily codeword.
Enter your details below including answer to the questions “Why do you want to play coin drop?” for the chance to win the daily prize.
Be sure to tick the checkbox confirming that you will be available to play coin drop.
Prizes will go up to $25,000.
With the introduction of news updates at the start of each hour, how will Seven air the same number of ads (without reducing the length of the game show episodes) per hour?
So bizarre…
So it’s Couch Time (on Eleven) meets News Updates on Seven?
All that hype with “Alex Cullen’s Afternoon Show”….. for it to just be News Updates every hour between 1pm and 4pm? Riveting stuff. And not quite cost cutting for Seven to have him just be doing News Updates, is it?
There is a way to somewhat do it.
Start the hour with news, ending 3 minutes before the gameshow of that hour. That is stopset 1.
Then maybe two more stopsets of that length during the show. If they want to do three (which I think is alienating), some parts may have to be cut.
If so, have an ending disclaimer “portions of the program not affecting the outcome may have been edited”.
Bruh I thought we were expecting a Daily Edition type of show.
To be fair no one said it would it be.
That’s only to an average viewer.
If you take into account timezone differences, there’s actually one update every half an hour between 1-4, followed by the last one at 5.
Not exactly twiddling thumbs, is it?
Didn’t occur to me re the timezones. Thanks. It makes more sense now.
Perhaps trialling this out for the remainder of 2025, and may lead to bigger things in 2026 for Alex Cullen?
He’s providing localised updates for Adelaide? (Plus an extra one for QLD after daylight savings begins?)
And how about Perth, locally produced?
1 - 1:10pm is listed as “Light Entertainment” on the EPG for 7 Wollongong.
The only bulletin being signified as “local” on the press release is this:
4.00pm Seven’s Afternoon News – Your live and local 7NEWS at 4, featuring local headlines, national and international news, sport, finance and weather updates.
And that’s it.
Safe to say (happy to be surprised though) that it’s always Alex to start every afternoon hour.
…is there something in the water at the programming department of Channel 7?
Exactly.
The 2p and 3p (local time) updates are not mentioned so their durations can vary.
From that advertisement I think that what will be delivered.
No more midday movies on Seven anymore as yesterday would have been the last one.
