Not really. Maybe a little bit, but the JV’s don’t really drive sale, with both operators preferring to direct sales towards their main channels where they get to keep 100% of the income.

I like this line from the article:

What viewers in the local area might not be as thrilled about is the prospect of the large blue WIN logo that appears on screen over the top of the Ten watermark on its programming.

According to RegionalTAM ratings for the week of 26 March-1 April, WIN has fallen to 4th place in network ratings in Regional QLD, with the main channel falling to single figures. In Tasmania, WIN’s main channel is less than 2% ahead of 7TWO, whilst in Regional WA, WIN’s main channel is not only beaten by Nine, but is also beaten by 7mate! :open_mouth:

In fact, Southern NSW/ACT was the only aggregate market where WIN’s main channel managed double figures that week. Northern NSW was another aggregate market where the Ten affiliate’s main channel (currently under SCA) is in double figures.

It was the week when TBL was taking up the 7:30pm timeslot for most of that week before Ten moved it out of prime time.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with WIN wanting to use their own brand over Ten’s. But only as long as they use either the WIN globe logo or the WIN wordmark. NO solid mappy and NO wordmark on Eleven and One!!

I fear the future if WIN buys out Ten and replaces the Ten brand in metro…

I’d be happy if they used the watermark version of mappy on WIN again. Even alongside the One and Eleven watermarks. As long as it’s not solid and/or gigantic.

I wouldn’t mind so much if…

  1. The brand wasn’t so stupid, basically a generic word in a map of Aus.
  2. Their logos weren’t so obtrusive (huge & solid; it should be a watermark, not solid 100% of the time)
  3. They didn’t add unnecessary crap to secondary channels

Regardless of their crap, anyone that pays any attention knows that it’s really Network Ten behind their stupid mappy logo.

They had a smaller, transparent version of mappy… why not just use that! Nowhere near as invasive as a solid colour mappy!!

I’d be happy if WIN copy and pasted your “ELEVEN on WIN” and “ONE on WIN” watermarks from the Random Mocks thread. A MUCH better solution that still allows WIN to place their name on screen

What annoys me about the current, solid colour WIN ONE/WIN ELEVEN watermarks is that the WIN logo fades out from colour to grey at the same time before going off screen. So its grey/transparent for literally a fifth of a second, where it should be the whole time its on screen

It was last used in 2012 (I think). The promo I saw looks pretty much like this one, except with the removal of the Perth scenery, since they no longer own Nine Perth and Adelaide anymore. And a new voice over:

The owner of this ‘truly Australian’ TV network lives in Bermuda for tax reasons. What a shining example of a true blue Australian.
