WIN News

Oh, my mistake. I always thought it was, considering Prime was produced in Orange and the WIN NEWS orange building is a decent size.

They may have moved out http://www.commercialview.com.au/124-126-endsleigh-avenue-orange-nsw/commercial-for-sale-details-11182198

I would be surprised if WIN does so, since they tried to recover losses. And local news is their ace. Sadly, what would you expect if there are WIN markets that axed local news?

Either Thursday or Friday I heard a news break with Geoff and the endline was: “Catch WIN NEWS at 6 on channel 8”, or something similar. I just found it odd to reference the channel number? Has it been done before?

Yes, I’ve heard ads on Canberra radio saying that WIN News is on Channel 8 and in HD on Channel 80.

Likely because of how many people might still think WIN = Nine - and basically just think ‘oh, WIN is on 5 now’ because that’s where the Nine programming is.

I dare say that’s part of the reason for the in your face watermarking - WIN scrambling to get through to people that WIN isn’t the same thing as Nine, and that WIN still exists, even if you can watch ‘Nine’.

Though WIN could try not using Channel Nine’s news theme if they didn’t want their news service confused with Nine’s local news.

Southern Cross Ten did something similar, with this rather poorly done but relatively good idea for a promo:

SCA and WIN should have continued some form of “Nine on 5” advertising post the affiliation change. Similar to how Nine continued promoting that “9Life is here!” after the channel launched.

A shortened “Nine on 5”, combined with Nine metro’s post-9HD and 9Life ‘channel numbers promo’ for SCA. For WIN, an altered version of their “some of your channel numbers have changed” promo. These should have continued for at least a month or two after the change.

some of the print advertising for WIN News has also mentioned the channel number from around the time the affiliations changed over

Caught a few eps of weekend Win News Tas earlier in the year. They’re actually not a bad 30 mins of local news with the odd national thrown in where appropriate. Just 5:30 seems a weird time.

@Abesty I’m sure this has been said in the past, but every day I see amazing caps & montages from you, covering a wide range of Australian Television. You’re an amazing and pivotal contribution on Media Spy, without your work, myself and others on here wouldn’t get to see what TV looks like on the other side of the country. Well done, your efforts are deeply appreciated!

Thanks.

I noticed in NSW they have been using some new chroma key angles for some of the time:

Compliments from me too @Abesty

Now this is getting painful, how can WIN News be using Ten’s lower thirds and have colour-matched other graphics, but we still have Cool Hand Luke? Even their updates and “coming up at 6pm” previews alternate between CHL and the WIN News theme “Steel”.

Are any other markets other than TAS using Ten’s lower thirds?
