WIN Corporation

It’s WIN. It moves as slowly as Bruce does in his advanced years.

I thought he would of expedited it to get Mappy back into northern NSW

Possibly waiting for the alleged rebrand later this year. I’d assume they’ll update that dinosaur of a website while they’re at it.

Relaunch of Winnet imminent.

They unironically probably should - given how easy it is to be an NBN reseller, would make sense to have WIN as a consumer facing digital technology brand. Given they have difficulty selling all their air time, may as well make the self promotions something that creates a revenue stream.

They already would own winnbn.com.au…

Things like MediaHub should be WIN’s step forward towards having a business services arm, as part of a future post being a legacy television provider, rather than buying more into regional TV, and seemingly no diversification beyond that.

Doesn’t owning 50% of a failing NRL side count?

MediaHub does have some business services not directly related to broadcasting. They have their own fibre product (although that does support their broadcast offerings), and their own data archiving product plus some other similar services. As I understand it, these initiatives came from MediaHub rather than the owners, although of course the owners would have had to sign off.

MediaHub is 50% owned by ABC, so it’s not entirely up to WIN to direct the business operations of MediaHub, and they’d have to share in the profits of any diversifications so I dare say that if WIN had an idea which they thought would make them money outside of broadcasting, they’d be unlikely to launch it via MediaHub.

Wasn’t sure where to put this, but I’ve noticed that Crawfords (now owned by WIN) have started putting their content on YouTube eg full episodes of “Matlock Police”.

Sounds like those DVD sales that WIN flogged relentlessly on TV for years have slowed to a crawl.

Ah yes, must have forgotten that!

Thanks.

it’s just episode ones of various Crawfords shows. They put it there as a taster to get people to buy the DVD box sets if they want more episodes.

If I was 10, I would have put ads on the soon to be closed WIN Ten stations showing a step by step tutorial on how to download and use the 10 Streaming app on smart TVs.

If I’m correct they are actually not closing 10 down they are currently trying to get another agreement signed for the markets effected just like what happened with 7.

It will all depend on what deal Ten are prepared to make. If they are steadfast on making profit at WIN’s increasing expense, they’ll be shut down.

Seems to further indicate that Nine doesn’t have any interest in buying up WIN.

But does WIN want to buy Nine? Does the Gordon family want to keep owning WIN once Bruce is exchanged for a Sunbeam?

Or maybe a new operator will come in and say, 7 own all their main stations, 10 own all their main stations, we gotta do the same.

I don’t think WIN should even go near ACM. They have enough issues as it is.

What issues are they? WIN has just stabilised the company with its acquisition of NBN. Should last at least another 8-10 years on existing terms. They’re bringing NBN’s cost base into line with the rest of the network and slicing off the Ten non-achieving complementary licences over time.

Exactly.

WIN acquiring NBN (and with it, NBN News) is a like a blue collar worker with a significant other half (ie. Nine) buying an old Rolls Royce.

Yes the grand old lady of regional TV is well regarded and well loved by many, but is uneconomical in these days of high cost of living pressures. Thus the thirsty old V8 has been swapped out for a Toyota 4 cylinder and moved out to the carport.

Quite frankly, if they’re not going to keep up with community expectations, all of Australian FTA television can fuck off and die. Turn in the licenses and shut the place down.

The community expects them to maintain their existing committments. Can’t be bothered to do that? FAFO.

They’ve done sweet FTA to warrant any sort of sympathy (like what some of you seem to be doing) towards their industry’s plight. Yet, they expect government handouts and reductions in their taxes to seemingly rearrange the deck chairs on their own Titanics because of their own idiocy.

As far as I’m concerned, they can play the national anthem one last time and switch the transmitters off.

But in reality, what do you expect them to do?

Not even 7, 9, 10 or FOXTEL has been able to stem the tide to streaming, so what hope does regional TV have?

And you don’t see the likes of Netflix or Apple TV rushing to set up regional news bulletins for their platforms, do you? And you know why? Because the money’s not there for them to be viable.
