I don’t think it’s an issue if its broadcast for some live events.
For prerecorded shows (The Uninspired & Unemployed Impractical Jokers for example) it makes no sense.
I also don’t understand why The Project feels the need to begin every show by announcing it.
Exactly - just a HR publicity stunt to say that they are “diverse” - sure, give an acknowledgement of country at major meetings (i.e. major shareholder meetings, etc), but doing it four or five times a day will make it lose the impact, and put a negative focus on it.
- that’s what many people I know say about it when it’s done at the AFL finals.
Fair point, perhaps a short disclaimer in the credits (i.e. this program was produced on Kuarna Country) would be sufficient.
I tend to agree as someone who’s not against the acknowledgement to country. At the start of the day when meetings or proceedings begin, absolutely. That carries through the rest of the day and no need to repeat it.
Yes I meant acknowledgement of country. It’s the way it is and whilst it can get repetitive I haven’t heard anyone groan or anything and it’s just on the proforma for meeting agendas and minutes.
Not sure why anyone would bother fighting it. Whilst it can be very tiresome it’s not hurting or angering anyone.
Exactly - on ABC Radio in most capital cities, they air an Acknowledgment of Country at the start of the breakfast shows (and in some cities, also the Saturday Breakfast show) - they don’t air it at the start of each program.
On most ABC News bulletins, they also acknowledge the land of where the bulletin is coming from - same with ABC Radio current affairs (AM, World Today, etc) - it’s only 2-3 seconds.
I know many people who go to soccer matches, who don’t see the need to do it at the start of each Home and Away match, so there are quite a few people in this boat.
If sporting organisations want to do something at the start of each match, perhaps just a short “We acknowledge the lands we are playing this game on are the traditional lands of the Kuarna people…” before the teams run out will suffice - would only take 20 seconds.
Exactly - I think that over time, more and more people will accept is as part of our modern day society, especially as time goes by and the next generation are bought up with having it as apart of life.
But then tabloid outlets always manages to find something to get outraged from which isn’t hard given the amount of snowflakes that linger on the likes of Twitter/X to fan their outrage and hey the DM thinks ‘We’ve got a ripper of a headline’.
They, like the far left, are also in the minority, just that they’re more annoying and persistent with this non-issue.
It’s fine if they don’t like it. Most people I know who are either indifferent or don’t like it still respect the fact it’s there and don’t really care about dismantling it.
