Another win to Nine on Wednesday but it was very close, both in main channel and network shares where it was just 0.4% ahead of Seven. 10 would be happy to improve its Wednesday share to its best result for 8 weeks.

Nine won the three east coast markets. Seven won Adelaide and Perth. 10 won the three key demographic groups.

The Block won at 7.30pm but lost some momentum across the week – down 140,000 from Tuesday and down 80,000 from the previous Wednesday. That was largely due to the premiere of the new season of The Bachelorette that drew 628,000 and won the key demographic groups. That was down from 717,000 the previous year and is the lowest launch of the franchise so far in preliminary numbers (2018 had 631,000).

ABC’s line-up took a hit, Hard Quiz slipped 60,000 with the network down 2 points week-on-week. Planet America again made the top 20 in a good result for a 9.30pm program.

Seven’s movie and Nine’s Australian Crime Stories also made the top 20.

Nine News numbers down especially Melbourne where it was beaten by Seven. Lowest Wednesday number in the 5-cities since March.

The Bachelorette no doubt took away viewers from The Block and Hard Quiz.
Mad as Hell finished its 12th season on a low.

Can’t wait to see 10Shake be overtaken by NITV. Getting close…

Comparisons to 9Life (end of 2015) and 7flix (early 2016) would be interesting I reckon

edit

A quick search through the ratings archives shows:

9Life equivalent Wed in early Dec 2015: 2.2%

7flix equivalent Wed in early March 2016: 1.1% (but MPEG4, once more viewers reached: a Thursday in late June 2016 was 2.7%

Not a great comparison, but gives an idea.

More ratings numbers including afternoon games show and news ratings.

Ratings: Nine narrowly wins Wednesday as The Bachelorette launches to 628,000 metro viewers

Terrible results for The Chase UK losing to Tipping Point.
Tipping Point 204k to The Chase 139k.

Seven really need to look at their 3pm slot as it then has a flow on effect for the 4pm news and I dare say, a good portion of the evening.

10 News First no longer in the top 20 for the night.

However the number wasn’t too bad, its highest result so far this week.

Is it because you want failure on Shakes part, or is it NITV’s success you’d be rewarding.

Planet America’s ratings success is one of the underrated stories of the year IMO. For a program about American politics airing in primetime to not just make repeated entries into the Top 20 but to beat its commercial competition is really impressive.

Wonder whether 10 Shake’s ratings struggles so far says more about its schedule/programming lineup or if it’s another example of a MPEG 4 only channel not rating well?

Seven News won every market except Sydney.

If Tipping Point is continuing to beat The Chase UK, I bet it will outrank The Chase AU if an Australia version was created

I personally wouldn’t be surprised if the channel being MPEG4-only is a contributing factor to the poor ratings of 10 Shake, especially since 9Rush (which was only launched back in April, not like it’s one of the more established multichannels originally launched a decade or so ago) last night received more than double the 6pm-midnight percentage share that 10 Shake did.

As the years go by, being an MPEG4 channel is less and less relevant. It’s the content that’s not resonating. A third Network Ten channel now showing repeats of the same Ten content as two other channels is not going to set the world on fire.

Comparisons with 7 flix are meaningless. When it went from MPEG4 to MPEG2 ages ago it also underwent a total revamp. 9 Rush has hardly been a success either. And given the totally different audience it’s targeting comparisons with 10 Shake are irrelevant.

Agree. There isn’t any show I am remotely interested in watching.

Shows that have been repeated incessantly on Foxtel won’t be a success on 10 Shake, especially if they’re not scripted shows.

Just shows that some good shows at 9.30 still rate on fta. Look at Planet America for example.

As for Tipping Point beating The Chase UK. Well, double eps of the The Chase doesnt help…

It would be very interesting to see the numbers broken down for the various Chanels that broadcast on both MPEG 2 & MPEG 4.
Also breakdowns for 7/71 & 9/91 etc. are those duplicated MPEG2 LCN’s worth it.
