It was another good night for 9Gem. recording its best Wednesday of the year and helping Nine to an easy win in the overnights. Nine was up almost two largely at the expense of Seven that slipped without a reality franchise at 7:30pm.

Nine won the three east coast markets comfortably while Seven was ahead in Adelaide and Perth. Nine won the key demos.

MasterChef had its best Wednesday of the year to be just ahead of Ninja Warrior on its first Wednesday episode of the season.

Seven’s Highway Patrol wasn’t much competition, especially in repeat mode.

Earlier Home and Away continued to do well while The Project had its best Wednesday result of the year.

On ABC, Win the Week shed 80k from debut but Mad As Hell held up.

10 News recorded its highest audience of the year. Seven Brisbane also doing well with its best performance of 2021.

Seven News won it’s 6pm timeslot in Brisbane while nine News won its 6:30 timeslot in Brisbane.
Good numbers for 10 news first especially in Perth.
Masterchef Australia was competitive against ninja in its 7:30
Overall nine won the night thanks to Wimbledon (9Gem).

With Mike Amor at the helm of Seven News Melbourne this week, there’s been a big gap between Seven and Nine from 6pm-6:30pm, however the gap significantly narrowed from 6:30pm to 7pm, probably for Tim Watson’s sport segment and Jane Bunn’s weather segment.

Home and Away continues its strong performance, just 14k behind A Current Affair in Melbourne.

Masterchef beat Australian Ninja Warrior by just 1,000 viewers. While lockdown isn’t boosting any show, except news programs. The magic million is getting impossible for shows now. FTA really is sinking.

People turning off FTA as it’s just fear mongering all day with news bulletins and updates. People are avoiding that and jumping on streaming services to avoid all that.

I wouldn’t say ANW isn’t rewarding for a viewer to watch anyway other than the participant, same for Masterchef.

The high news ratings would suggest that people still turn to FTA whenever a big story is happening. While all networks have experienced increased Sydney ratings for their news services of late, those Nine News numbers are probably at a level I last remember seeing around 2013-14!

However, post-7.30pm ratings aren’t too great. Maybe because the general populous is finally getting sick and tired of reality shows.

But those fear mongering shows are the ones that are getting the boost, while non corona shows are dropping so I’m not sure that’s accurate.

Why are the news ratings higher than anything else? It’s because news is important, while reality shows are just the same old every year.
