Another fairly close night. Despite the unusual night for AFL, the overall network shares were similar to recent Wednesday night numbers. Sydney and Brisbane saw Nine number one with Seven ahead in the AFL markets.

Bachelor in Paradise saw its audience increase for the third consecutive night to another high for the year with the franchise’s best rating since 2018. RBT and Emergency were steady for Nine while Hard Quiz was a top 10 performer for ABC. The Weekly, though, was down 100k. The Front Bar ranked 22nd.

AFL figures seem particularly underwhelming. Bachelor in Paradise, RBT and Emergency are all ahead.

The first Wednesday night match of the season gave Seven a narrow win.
Bachelor in Paradise surged without other reality competition against it. It will be pared back this Sunday.

The ABC will be pretty happy that Hard Quiz was the night’s top entertainment program, while Ten should be pleased that Bachelor in Paradise topped the demographics.

At 6pm, Nine News smashed Seven in Sydney although ABC News NSW edged ahead of ACA at 7pm by 6k. With everything happening at the moment, it’ll be quite interesting to see how the news ratings in this market go over the coming weeks.

The game being lop-sided probably contributed to that

Bachelor in Paradise continues to build momentum as the week goes on and is dominating in demos.

Pretty close figures for news in Melbourne all week so far.
Nine really need to be concerned about the drop off in the 6.30 half hour.

Thank you linesmen, thank you ballboys.

I take it Harry Potter bombed in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth?

Especially Brisbane where Seven was within one point of being beaten by 10. The movie was 33rd in Brisbane and 25th in Sydney.

One way to look at it though is, what did Seven seriously expect with that programming/scheduling? Probably not as bad as it did, but it’s obviously just filler content while the AFL works its magic elsewhere (although Adelaide was ordinady and Perth poor). So very heavy lifting by locked-down Melburnians last night.

If Seven wanted to rate well in Sydney and Brisbane last night, I highly doubt they would’ve aired Harry Potter.

It’s lazy, very lazy.

What else would you have them air?

They could’ve tried many alternatives: Highway Patrol (new or old), Border (new or old), any new factual acquisition in the can, more Home and Away??

Also shorter run times and likely to do better.

Very close gap between Seven and Nine News Melbourne at 6, Nine just edging it out. Seven News Brisbane winning at both 6:00 and 6:30.

This is constant, nothing new in those areas

Maybe what they put in the schedule would be nice. I set my EPG to record the animation line up, which was pulled for Harry Potter. Doesn’t seem to have done them any favours.

I was more referring to Sydney, Brisbane and Perth getting Harry Potter on the main channel. Obviously this wasn’t possible in Melbourne due to the AFL so they shifted Harry Potter to 7 Mate.

7mate was actually well up (compared to the usual Wednesday), but that’s total people definitely not in the key demos.
