A long night of tennis delivered another win for Nine with a +40% share with a win across markets. 10’s line up ranked second as Seven dropped to its lowest network share since State of Origin 1 last year.

I’m A Celebrity posted its best Wednesday audience of the series to keep 10 competitive along with a 5% share for 10Bold.

Outside the top 20 were 21st Sunrise and 22nd 10 News First 6pm.

Huge late night figures for the tennis in a pretty close and intense match, with Thiem defeating Nadal.

I’m a Celeb has rated pretty consistantly all season.

Temptation Island USA on Seven must have flopped.

Second time in three nights that Nadal pulled more than one million viewers.
The only joy for Seven was that its 6pm news won the timeslot in five city totals (the afternoon’s Australian Open quarter final between Wawrinka and Zverev finished before 6pm AEDT allowing fans to switch channels).
10Bold still managed to grab 5% share against the tennis, that’s impressive.

Something I find interesting looking at ratings across northern NSW. Seven News/Prime News is decent everywhere but Newcastle, where Ten News outrates it. Seven News wasn’t even in the top 10 in Newcastle.

Ooft, Seven really hurting with First Dates underperforming. Another decent show which has fallen victim to their erratic scheduling and poor treatment.

First Dates is a decent show? HA!

But am surprised that 10 did beat Seven. It doesn’t happen that often.

I know some may disagree but you’d have to say that I’m a celebrity has been a massive success for ten this year. It has posted consistently high figures for almost the entire season and with only two eps left I’d say this seasons average would be the highest of all the seasons.

I know it started earlier and had less competition but kudos to ten for taking another risk and having it pay off in terms of having the number one non news show for the majority of nights it has been on, the most talked about show for the first month of the year and a great platform for the launch of their feb schedule. It really is the perfect show for this time of the year and they seem to be pretty good at keeping it fresh and finding the right mix of personalities to attract the eyeballs.

The also made the right choice to end it at 4 weeks which also seems like the perfect length. Time will tell how well it will lead into their feb shows but you’d have to think that aus survivor and dancing will have a good shot at posting decent numbers come next week.

I guess it depends on how the public take to the MKR shake up and also if MAFS can continue to grow like is has in the past few years!!!

@portmacman where do you see/get ratings g
For the regional sub markets like Newcastle ?

First Dates should not be a 7.30pm show. It’s a show that can do OK if it has a stronger lead in. It definitely fits better later at night e.g. after MKR where I assume it will move too after next week.

I completely agree with you. Fact is there is the FTA audience is significantly less over summer and the competition is huge. For it to manage the figures it has is a great success for 10.

First Dates should not be a 7 show. There. Fixed it for you.

because I used to work in sales and agency I would get the sub markets up here. I still do. I don’t get Victoria, Queensland or southern NSW though. Just top 10 for Northern Rivers, Tamworth/Taree and Newcastle, plus Top 10 overall.

Yep, personally I think the only two half-decent ventures into dating/relationship-themed programming on Australian TV in 2019 didn’t even air on the commercial networks even if the ratings were nowhere near the heights that Married At First Sight and other such shows acheived.

With the news that Bride & Prejudice, The Super Switch and The Proposal have all been axed, I wouldn’t mind predicting that First Dates is likely to be cancelled soon if that show’s ratings continue to underperform.

MAFS & The Bachelor/ette will likely remain popular for the foreseeable future (with the general public, certainly not by yours truly) because they’ve been established formats for some time now, but aside from that I think the genre of dating, relationship & wedding-themed TV reached its very peak last year.

I’ve fixed it even further.

Sorry, couldn’t resist! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It probably already has been. These episodes were filmed in 2019 and screening them was delayed. It’s been over 18 months since new episodes screened.

Yeah, you might be right about First Dates already being cancelled. In recent years Seven have tended to officially announce underperforming programs as being axed months after their final episodes have gone to air!

I thought it was on 7flix now? I had no idea it was on the main channel last night

Who are they targeting? Strange program to play while 7 are still showing big bash. Surely the target audience would be different, so hard to reach the required audience for first dates during big bash

This ranked 54th
