Nine’s best Wednesday main channel share since State of Origin. Ordinary number for Seven with ABC’s highest Wednesday for a month while 10 got what its programming deserved with the network’s lowest Wednesday share since Origin. Nine got big numbers along the east coast with Melbourne almost double Seven’s share but Seven won Adelaide and Perth. 10 fortunate that 10Bold is rating well.

Without much competition, The Block had its best Wednesday of the season, while Gruen was up slightly on last season’s debut that helped Utopia to its best number in 4 weeks. The Celebrity Chase recorded a season low while Bondi Rescue failed to impress.

The Footy Show was the number one show in Melbourne but was just 16th in Adelaide, and 22nd in Perth.

Nine and ABC thrived last night.
Although the five-city audience for the AFL Footy Show was lower than last year’s 472,000, the Melbourne audience actually went up (328,000 compared with 247,000 in 2018 when it went head to head with The Bachelor and The Front Bar).

Well the idiots at ten got what they deserved. Everyone except ten saw these diabolical ratings coming. Morons.

Nine would probably be happy with The Footy Show. Still some life in it if they bring it back next year.

After the success of Masked Singer, Ten goes back to the tried-and-failed Bondi Rescue!? So much for that 50 weeks of programming or whatever garbage that was about.

10 News First was 21st with Britain’s Got Talent 22nd on a season low - 50,000 less than last week. Muriel’s Wedding was just 39th, just ahead of programming on 10Bold.

Bondi Rescue is brand new, first run programming.

This year’s show ran from 8.40 - 10.45ish, I believe last year’s started at 7.30pm.
Additionally, Perth audiences would have been more interested last year with the West Coast Eagles participating in the Grand Final.

Only 8,000 viewers in Sydney with a local team participating due to the show airing at midnight. The show should have been aired at 8.40pm on 9GEM in northern markets.

There is another edition of The Footy Show on Friday night at 7.30pm. This is the regular Sunday morning panel hosted by Tony Jones and they will be previewing the game.

If this special rates well, the Sunday panel may be moved to Wednesday/Thursday nights for next year.

OK Ten it’s time to bring forward the launch of The Bachelorette. I see no reason why it can’t start next week or the week after. The Masked Singer will give it that extra promotional push earlier in the week.

Bondi Rescue shouldn’t count. It’s been a failure for 5 years. Same with Jamie Oliver tonight. Unless these days count as part of the 2 weeks of non-programming.

Seems a well earned rest was what TFS needed, but whether it has any more longevity left though is the question or if last night truly was the final episode.

The GF editions always tend to do well (eg; pretty sure it bet The Front Bar last year).

Know the suggestion was that last night would be the ‘final’ episode but perhaps it’s worth Nine continuing to do one big TFS GF special each year?

It went until around 11:30pm

Agreed.

I know it’s quite easy to say this with the benefit of hindsight but if Ten premiered both The Masked Singer and the Angie Kent season of The Bachelorette this week, one wonders if they actually could’ve been in with a shot to win (well, at least until the AFL Grand Final on Saturday) a ratings week for a change. But instead, they’re lucky to have Gogglebox on tonight.

I personally still think The AFL Footy Show should be laid to rest for good, like the NRL version has been. A new decade needs new programming ideas rather than the same tired old formats and besides, there are still a number of football panel discussion programs on Nine for both codes which actually talk about the games(s)!

Not sure if being Melbourne’s top show of the night will be quite enough to justify a full series renewal (one off specials, maybe) when The AFL Footy Show received average ratings in Adelaide & Perth last night. Of course, single digit figures for the late night airing in the two Northern markets but I think that was pretty much to be expected.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s as much (or even any) hype in Sydney for the lead-up to this first GWS Grand Final as the AFL would probably like to think there is.

OK, so if past AFL Grand Finals featuring the Swans are anything to go by it seems likely that a decent amount of Sydneysiders will be watching the game on Seven this Saturday and you can be sure that the local media will have special coverage (right to the point of Nine News Sydney having it as their lead story on Saturday night + The Sun Herald & Sunday Telegraph doing special front pages for their 29/9/2019 editions) if there’s a Giants win. But all of that will only last for about 12-24 hours until the attention turns to the NRL Grand Final lead-up and mainstream Sydney again mostly ignores the AFL until one of the local teams makes it into another Grand Final.

I think it might be smart for The Footy Show to run for 3-4 weeks a year during the finals and ending with the Grand Final episode. I think if it’s only a few episodes a year with the original panel and during finals there might be some life. It just feels old and stale to be airing it across the entire footy season but I saw a bit of last nights and it felt different and more fun for some reason.

Will the Sunday Footy Show remain in 2020?

 Hilarious how you guys like to create your own rules for what should or shouldn’t be counted in Ten’s statement about programming first run content.

It is consistently beating AFL Game Day in the ratings so I would suggest so.

I imagine GTV and Eddy Central will be discussing bringing the show back with Ed, Sam, Trev and Bec next year after those ratings. That’s an impressive Melbourne figure for a show that went for 3 hours until 11.30pm.

Is it? I would expect changes to AFL Game Day next year. It’s a bit flat the rats.
