On a very competitive night, Seven scored its highest Wednesday share of the survey while Nine posted its lowest. ABC was also competitive but it was 10 that won the key advertising demographics. Nine won along the east coast with Seven winning Adelaide and Perth.

It was not a good night for Australian drama with Doctor Doctor now at 7.30pm dropping to 457,000 compared to the last episode at 9pm that managed 500,000 while 10’s drama The Secrets She Keeps missed the top 20. There was not much joy in the key demos for drama either. Secrets ranked 17th in 25-54 while Doctor was 18th.

MasterChef was the top entertainment program with ABC’s Hard Quiz and Mad As Hell next best. Britain’s Got Talent managed third place at 7.30 while Paramedics later on Nine posted a season low.

Shocking figures for Secret She Keeps. It was a great drama so its a pity it hasn’t done well.

Doctor Doctor also failed at 7:30.

MasterChef went up a bit to just under one million while the season premiere of BGT helped Seven to win the night.
I think the lower figures for The Secrets She Keeps are due to the fact many people have seen it on 10Play earlier this month. Expect the same outcome for How to Stay Married and Drunk History Australia when their TV broadcast begin.
After this experience, I am sure 10 won’t put any more new Aussie shows on 10Play for advance screening.

Don’t understand tv viewing these days, over 1 million watch people putting pieces of plastic together but a really good drama hardly rates. The Secrets she Keeps has really good acting and the production values are high but it doesn’t even make the top 20 shows!

I just don’t know if drama has a place on networks with ads anymore. Whereas on streaming services it normally does well.

I think nine killed momentum with Doctor Doctor. When you pull some think off the air and return it 5 weeks later to a completely new time slot - you kill it

And I’m not sure the 10Play runs steal so many viewers from the run on Air on 10. If anything the people that did watch and enjoy spread the word of mouth and it acts like extra advertising from people who loved the show. At least that’s the plan

Scripted always lifts with on demand plays

But stil, disappointing numbers for aussie drama

Putting Doctor Doctor in an earlier timeslot, which was not what people were used to, was a bad idea from Nine. It probably would have been a better slot after Lego Masters on Monday nights. Informer 3838 could been shown on Wednesdays after Paramedics.

You can’t expect better ratings for The Secret She Keeps when you’ve had it running on 10play for a month. How To Stay Married will have the same problem next week and Drunk History.

The 100th episode of Gogglebox rated well on pay TV, considering it was up against MasterChef in the eastern states at the same time.

But it got pretty much the same figures that most dramas get on 10, and similar to other networks. Most shows at 8:30 have done similar figures after Masterchef as well. So I am not sure the reason for the 21st placing is because it was on 10play.

You will argue that until the cows come home but there has to be some effect. I’ve watched some of Ten’s offerings on 10play now when I would have normally watched their first run on 10. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I am not arguing it. Just I don’t think that the 10play argument really stacks up when Playing for Keeps got 300k last year, Sisters got 300k among many other dramas 10 has offered and even five bedrooms got around the 400k mark last year. It just seems to be the mark for Australian dramas. Even Doctor Doctor did poorly and that wasn’t on 9now first.

Your not the only one I have as well. I didn’t watch the drama on 10 either but I wouldn’t have watched it live anyway. I always watch dramas on catch up. I hope it got good figures on 10play but I didn’t see it make any lists posted on this forum.

It has everything to do with how poorly dramas are treated by the networks with inconsistent start times following reality shows with variable lengths. They seem to treat dramas as a afterthought, even though they’re programs likely to have longevity and can be sold overseas and to streaming services.

Yeah I agree with all of that. That is why I thought putting it online first was a good move. It keeps fans of Australian drama happy in terms of accessibility.

True. I saw that many people on Ten’s Facebook page were angry that The Secrets She Keeps has been removed from Tenplay as they prefer to binge TV series.

Less than 40k watched on Tenplay going by oztam figures.

Interesting that Hot Seat at 5PM beats Chase at 5PM then it switches.

How does the survey results work for 10play released by OzTam? Often networks have inflated figures released that OzTam don’t.

You must have misread the table. Hot Seat at 5pm ranked at 27th place compared to The Chase 5pm in 20th place.
