A competitive though low rating night saw Seven win its second consecutive Wednesday, 3 clear of Nine with ABC’s main channel scoring a rare second place.

Nine slipped 1 from last week as ABC was up 1 while Seven, 10 and SBS were unchanged.

For Seven, the BBL was over 300k for the fourth consecutive night. Earlier Seven’s lead at 6pm was up on recent Wednesdays with Nine ahead only in Sydney.

Nine’s line-up of new programming saw Country Home Rescue slip to a season low, down 50k on the previous episode two weeks ago. 9Gem was down on recent results with is Bond film marathon.

It was ABC that had the top rated programming post 7.30 including a new Hard Quiz crossover with Mad As Hell that was the top entertainment title of the night. The Yearly that followed also did well. Both were up on the equivalent shows last year when Hard Quiz had 431,000 and The Yearly 401,000.

For 10, a Dog House Australia repeat and The Project were best for the night, down slightly on the previous Wednesday.

Sunrise again the top breakfast show and in the top 20.

I watched both Hard Quiz and The Yearly last night, both were very funny and entertaining.

The figures for the ABC are really good which presents a good argument on why it could be successfully privatised and save the tax payer a billion dollars a year.

Ten well back in fourth. Some are suggesting it could be an interesting tussle between Ten and SBS next year.

Just NO! We have enough commercial drivel already.

Continuing your love affair with 10. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

The figures show that the money is being well spent. Money which is also being put back into the economy by way of expenditure, salaries, taxes, etc. and also generates revenue by merchandising and program sales.

And for all the hot air about privatising the ABC. The commercial TV sector would vehemently fight it as it would mean another competitor in a shrinking advertising market.

Its interesting because if the ABC keep consistently pulling these figures like they have today, it becomes a commercially viable audience that advertisers would flock to

Not everything is for sale.

Every whore has its price lol

But it doesn’t, you can’t just cherry pick one night and say it’s commercially sustainable. And doesn’t matter if advertisers would flock to it, we can’t sustain 3 commercial networks as it is. The market certainly can’t sustain a 4th. The commercial sector would fight it. It suits them much better to keep the ABC as it is.

It’s not really cherry picking because the ABC has finished as the number 3 network for the year.

I agree the networks would fight it but it might not be their ultimate decision.

Lets see if the ABC continue to pull further ahead next year.

The Weekly should be on year round IMO.

It was a good show last night. It’s a really well produced, polished show now. The satire, chat and skits all worked well.

Is that seriously the way how you regard the ABC?

It’s a metaphor my friend

By privatise ABC , I assume that means to sell it and turn it into another commercial TV network. Basing such an assessment on one Wednesday night out of the main ratings period is fraught with danger and would be massively be opposed by the bulk of the population anyway.

But if there was some alternative reality where that happened it would totally destroy one of ABC’s key features, that is, that it not commercial and it isn’t programmed based on how much money can be made from advertisers . In such a scenario, the key essence of the network would be gone and viewers would desert it, program selection and schedules would be dictated by financial considerations. The ABC Kids programs would be particularly impacted as they are often chosen by parents because of the lower level of commercialisation and especially no ads.

Imagine living in a world where the ABC doesn’t exist…

And it is your job to sell the idea to Parliament

So you walk in and tell them it will cost taxpayers over one billion dollars a year

And we all get to hear what Paul Barry thinks

It will be a tax funded playground for identity politics and a cheer squad for the left.

What do you think your chances would be of getting that up?

With so many media platforms available, it does raise the question do we really need a taxpayer tv?

Yes!

Unique result in the m/c key demos, with Melbourne’s 17k in 16-39 matching the entire metro five cities result, meaning zeros in all other markets? Or a mistake?

And add to that Seven News and Big Bash Cricket also doing well in Melbourne, would be interesting to see the different shares breakdowns.
