Wednesday again produced a close result in overnight network shares. Seven was narrowly ahead but its 26.6% share was the network’s best Wednesday result so far for the 2020 survey. Nine in second place with 24.1% posted its lowest Wednesday of 2020 so far. Seven won all markets but third placed 10 in total people was an easy winner across the key demographic groups – 6 points clear of second placed Nine in 25-54 and 10 points clear in 16-39 where Seven ranked second.

Seven’s win was largely generated before 7.00pm with Seven News filling the top 2 positions. Home and Away was 4th at 7pm and Britain’s Got Talent, despite posting a season high ranked third at 7.30pm while the debut of The Bodyguard was outside the top 20 in total people and all key demos. The two episodes managed 23rd and 25th places.

the standout performer was MasterChef that recorded its biggest audience in three weeks to top one million viewers and dominate the demographic results while The Secrets She Keeps continued to grow, posting another series high.

Nine’s Paramedics posted its best number for 5 weeks as Taronga: Who’s Who in the Zoo ranked fourth at 7.30pm.

Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery’s new season did well for ABC but The Weekly and At Home Together dropped from the previous week.

How did 7flix’s new mid-week line-up perform? Its share was up week-on-week but under 2% total people suggests it has a bit of marketing/building still to do, though I guess it needs a few weeks first. Not a great night for multi-channels anyway apart from 10 Bold of course.

It is great that Secret She Keeps continues to grow. It was a series I really enjoyed - I still have to finish it and I am waiting for it to all finish to watching on catch up.

It should be of some concern to seven that The Project is now nippping at H&A’s heels in Sydney

Seven News finally had a win in Melbourne after trailing Nine News for more than a month, despite both bulletins rating highly in the midst of COVID-19 lockdown.
Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery’s season premiere was slightly higher than last year’s episode which pulled 596,000.
The Secrets She Keeps is set for a big finish after surging past 500,000.

Second lowest ranked commercial multi-channel. The newly introduced programs were outrated by 3 episodes of The Simpsons on the channel.

Last night it also outrated Seven and Nine News in 2 of the demos.

The Bodyguard rated poorly for Seven especially in the younger demos where you would have to conclude that younger audiences with Netflix chose not to watch a repeat with commercials!

@TV.Cynic any idea of the top non news shows in 25-54?

Masterchef back on track to 1 Million.
As @JohnsonTV mentioned, should be noted that 7NEWS Melbourne finally scores a win (both 6 and 6:30). Especially since 7NEWS Sydney and Brisbane trailed 9NEWS.

Nine News only trailed Seven News by around 20,000 viewers in Adelaide in the 6pm hour. Looks like the 5pm news lead-in is working. Seven should be worried.

The only reason I see 7 as the news leader there is because of the huge community push (and Jane Doyle). Other than that I believe Adelaide really does trust 9. This is based on the fact the Adelaide population seems to switch to 9 at 5 o clock on weekends.
Unless, @8_Network, you can explain why (and maybe prove me wrong?)

I think it’s just the fact that 7 Adelaide, is slowly losing their place to 9 Adelaide. With the new sets that 9 Adelaide are giving (which are way bigger) it’s no wonder, why 9 Adelaide is gaining traction. Also, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the sackings of former News Director, Terry Plane and Graeme Goodings have somewhat changed the atmosphere at 7 Adelaide, plus the current News Director, Chris Salter, doesn’t actually do much at 7 (apart from marketing or fiances).

Just to add, the set is ageing, I mean, they’ve had it for the last 6 years. It’s sleek and modern look have gotten somewhat dated. The lighting on the other hand, has improved. They want a new set, but the Network don’t want too.

Do we think that once Jane Doyle retires, the battle for 6pm supremacy in Adelaide will be much tighter or dare I say it, could even swing in Nine’s favour?

Quite interesting how Sydney has switched back to Nine at 6pm by an extremely healthy margin the last two nights, I’d imagine Seven are worried those sorts of ratings could become a trend once the NRL returns next week.

I think you are all basing these conclusions on very little evidence. For example, just last week Seven News recorded its highest Wednesday result for the year. That was in addition to its highest Monday (and second highest weekday) result of the year in that week. This week’s Monday result was the second best for the year.

So while Nine might have some big numbers they are not necessarily at the expense of Seven.
