Seven has never really been known for being adventurous. They tend to be middle of the road, and, generally it has worked for them. Lately, they’ve been making some odd decisions. Letting the tennis go, which may have been out of their control, was not a wise choice. Then their coverage of cricket was too middle of the road. Their BBL coverage, in particular, was appalling. It’s not football & shouldn’t be commentated like football. Their drama choices have been uninspired. Getting ABC castoffs that skew old are unlikely to work. Perhaps there was a reason ABC cancelled them? And their reality choices - boring & bland. They road on the coattails of MKR for too long. Sure 9 & 10 risk doing the same with the Block & Masterchef, but they at least are exploring other options. Seven’s mess is largely of their own making.

#42

Reviving a format that if it was a person it would be old enough to drink this year, is hardly adventurous I would have thought.

#43

You get the point though, they need something new and fresh.

I want to see Seven thrive and be competitive, but that won’t happen until they actually move out of their ‘middle of the road’, ‘family friendly’ approaches.

#44

Masked Singer. It’s not as if they don’t have options they just keep resorting to love formats no one loves watching, at least on their network. Maybe strip Beauty and the Geek?

#45

More recycled garbage.

#46

More reality rubbish.

#47

When talking reality shows though, they really need a real reality with a focus on real people rather than the same washed up hacks on the likes of MKR and MAFS. Perhaps a program where people from all parts of society come together for a good cause in the form of a project. That could potentially attract them eyeballs and help Seven with the ratings.

#48

While your idea is novel, it would most likely tank ratings-wise

#49

Hmm…I only thought of it since (if it went my way) it would focus on a group of people from society (a-grade celebs, ordinary Australians, TV hosts, and more) working together for a common goal (which could be building something, creating a performance or musical or something that’s for the greater good) and it wouldn’t be as artificial as what we have on our screens these days.

I’m not convinced. I feel like Australian TV is just very derivative and boring these days with a focus on self-centred drama. I think at least one of the networks needs to go back to the basics and let originality shine (think 10 and Masterchef). I feel Seven should take the plunge first and provide viewers with genuine alternatives. It might not seem too appealing on paper but with a potentially novel program like the one I’ve suggested, it will eventually pay off in ratings IMO.

#50

Yeah. Nah. Sounds boring.

#51

Personally it won’t be something that I’d watch either (even though I suggested it) but I’m sure you would agree that Australian networks are in dire need of some originality rather than just copying what people do overseas. Surely they need to go out of the blue and try something that’s never been done before?

With networks now facing intense competition from Netflix and Stan, local shows are more important than ever before. But it’s fine if you don’t agree or think I don’t know much, because I’m only a media enthusiasts who comments based on what I see and know, which isn’t much so my comments do get out of hand sometimes.

#52

Well if you can’t be bothered watching it then don’t bother suggesting it.

#53

Soz.
