ABC, SBS and Nine posted increased shares compared to the previous week. Seven won its second consecutive Wednesday with the same audience share while 10 dropped. Nine won Sydney and Melbourne with Seven ahead in the other three markets. Seven won 25-54 while 10 topped the 16-39 age group.

Hard Quiz was the top entertainment show again, even with last week. The Bachelor held onto it audience from the launch episode in contrast to previous years (there is usually a significant drop) and topped the demos. ABC’s Mad As Hell improved and helped Planet America to make a rare top 20 appearance.

RBT and Emergency gained some viewers week-on-week for Nine while Highway Patrol on Seven dropped out to the top 20 to 21st and 23rd places. Seven’s movie was 26th while Tommy on 10 ranked 32nd.

Seven News had a narrow win over Nine News in Melbourne.
I think the audience rise for Planet America was due to the public interest in this week’s Democratic National Committee virtual convention, which formally endorsed Joe Biden as candidate for this year’s US presidential election.

Seven would be counting themselves lucky that their early primetime lineup was so dominant. Their post-7.30 lineup pretty much crashed into nowhere.

Ratings: Seven wins Wednesday thanks to News and Home and Away

Today was the breakfast show of choice in Brisbane.

Or maybe because it moved to an earlier timeslot after Rosehaven.

Seven News won Melbourne narrowly.

A reversal on last week.

Usually they claim “and in its target of over 40s” or something, so I take it 7mate won that metric then?

Not sure what Seven can do about Hot Seat beating The Chase Australia on the East Coast.

Don’t know - may even have been 10 Peach as that was number one in 25-54.

Those Highway Patrol eps on 7 are ancient. Driving around in a 2010 or earlier Commodore

Seven News Brisbane won at 6:00, but a bigger drop for them meant Nine News Brisbane led at 6:30.

The ones that air on Tuesday on 7mate, yes. But the new episodes on Seven have been filmed more recently.

They were indeed repeats. But last night’s was actually a more recent season and last week HP did better, outrating RBT and making the Top 20, such filler factuals seem to be more fickle ratings wise.

Last night was Season 10 ep 4 and 5 of Highway Patrol.

Are the ratings for The Latest pretty good for an 11.30 timeslot?

Thanks for the question :grinning: It’s s a hard one to answer.

The considerations would be. Does it rate at the same level as the opposition? Would something else rate higher? Does it cost more per viewer to produce than alternative programming?

I’d say that it rates about the same as 9’s Late News, but the timeslot and the lead-in is more important in determining the ratings as no-one is going to change channel to watch late news when the start time is so variable.

I’d say that it probably would hold viewers for its 30 minute run (at least up to the first ad break) better than an alternative program that started at the same time and ran for an hour. Perhaps something semi-premium like The Amazing Race that Seven used to run would average better over the hour for one night of the week.

In general, numbers are trending down in recent weeks. This week could possibly be the bulletin’s year low - though bad timeslots complicate things. Tuesday’s number was less than 6 figures.

Another complication is that preliminary overnight numbers often suffer big adjustments depending on circumstance - such as like last night following a late-running movie.

Thanks for the detailed answer :+1:
I was actually referring to the 138K it got last night specifically.

It’s good seeing what the “late news” (The Latest and Nine’s Late News) have been rating. I wonder how The Project repeats are getting then, especially since they have been airing earlier of late, and similar time-slots than the other news.

Again, good to see the morning news ratings over on Seven, Nine and the ABC.

ABC did well last night. Planet America won the timeslot, which is great to see. ABC Wednesdays, and their various Australian content, all of 30 minutes each, did great. Proves that you don’t need endless reality shows to do well… :stuck_out_tongue:
