The third State of Origin propelled Nine to huge win on Wednesday. The +44% result was Nine’s best Wednesday of the year and almost four points higher than the previous week. Nine won all markets except Perth were Seven topped the night.

The Origin decider was the highest rated game of the 2020 season in all markets and compares to 2,002,000 for Game 3 of 2019. Nine’s share for the 2019 game was 48.3%.

ABC’s line up produced the top non-news programs Gruen and Hard Quiz with Reputation Rehab and the season final of Planet America also making the top 20.

Seven’s news and Home and Away kept the network competitive. 10’s line up, however, delivered its lowest Wednesday share of the year.

Massive audience for the SOO decider. Good news for Nine is that next year’s series will return to mid-year, which should ensure at least one match will attract two million.
The second half of Seven News and Nine News tied in Adelaide.

A thrilling Rugby league match has helped channel nine win the night by a huge margin. However the crowd at Suncorp stadium failed to reach beyond 50k.
I hope that Next year, the state of origin will return to a mid year format, rather than playing in November. Having the origin played in June/July will boost its ratings and crowd numbers.

glad that the decider of the State of Origin was the highest rating of the 3 matches.

ABC did well against the game. While Seven’s filler program (Inside Queen Mary 2) flopped. Ten flopped even more with Jamie Oliver.

F the State of Origin. Biggest event on TV last night would have to be the battle for funniest moment of the year between Hard Quiz and Reputation Rehab on the ABC. Haven’t laughed so hard in years watching Edwin school Tom Gleeson on HQ and then witnessing Zoe’s reaction to being papped on Rehab. The producers of Gogglebox need to stick a camera in Edwin’s living room so we can enjoy more of his old fart humour.

I think it’s almost certain that State of Origin will return to the traditional mid-year format in 2021, because these matches are generally made more for TV viewing (which on the whole, is likely to be considerably higher in chilly June/July than it is in relatively warm November) than crowd attendance.

The State of Origin Series has been hit hard by COVID-19 (which forces the postponement of the 3-match series). Having the State of Origin played in November has saw TV audiences (especially in Perth drop due to daylight saving) and crowd numbers (especially in Adelaide and Sydney) drop. The State of Origin Game 1 in Adelaide drew decent crowd numbers, however it failed to rise above 100k in the South Australian Capital.
According to ARLC chairman, Peter V’landys, he says that the State of Origin is poised to return to a mid-season timeslot in 2021. Having the State of origin played in winter will see TV audiences regain the audience as well as crowd numbers. MCG is poised to host one match of the State of Origin Series. I can’t see the State of Origin being slated for Game 2 on a Sunday night as it might clash with the AFL.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one that does that, I find the longer version so much better, the discussions are way more detailed and make better use of the panel.

It’s expensive.

Yeah, but they’ve got the dollars and the will to spend money to make money.
