Another Nine win in the 5 cities, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. 10 dropped 2% from the previous week, while ranking second in Brisbane. Seven kept competitive by dominant news service and Britain’s Got Talent.

Th Block was the standout performer. The Bachelorette was down from launch, however, it continued to outrate the previous season rating higher than all episodes from 2018 except the final.

Playing for Keeps got off to a bad start missing the top 20 to ranked 23rd behind Love Island that was 22nd, 10’s drama it was able to narrowly beat Love Island in demos.

Struggles Street was 25th. ABC’s new Australian drama Frayed did well.

A shame that Playing for Keeps missed the top 20. Dramas are really struggling these days. But good to see that Love island is doing worse though.

I wonder if 10 would have been better off airing playing for keeps over two nights. That being Tuesday night and Wednesday night and maybe leaving the behind the scenes special for Sunday.

Disastrous start for the new season of Playing for Keeps. Since the drama is based on an Aussie Rules club, maybe it should have aired during the AFL season with the season finale on the same week as AFL Grand Final, that’s when interest in the sport is at its peak.

Killer night for 10Bold!

Ten has renewed Playing for Keeps? Maybe they’ll reverse that if it doesn’t pick up over the next few weeks.

Scripted shows do better in consolidated viewers, with overseas sales, as streaming content etc. So the networks might keep some shows going because they have a longer long term life than most disposable reality shows.

Does PFK sell overseas? AFL is hardly an international sport.
Drama does well in consolidated numbers, but sub 300k for overnights is a pathetic result.

It has sold overseas. But it’s not really about AFL, per se.

Agree, but Ten has kept Bondi Rescue going for the last few years with those sorts of ratings in prime time, so if it’s funding itself, I’m thinking it could go again. Ten need a catalogue of scripted programs for the future.

In regards to drama, in general. I think all the networks need to look at new dramas that appeal to a wider audience rather than all these dramas mainly aimed at women. All the recent ones have been failing: Bad Mothers, Sisters, Secret Bridesmaid’s Business etc.

Perhaps they could pick one that someone watches? My Life is Murder had better ratings & was sold overseas (as an example).

There’s a good chance that will be renewed. I’d say they just haven’t made a decision yet but it certainly could still happen.

Perhaps as mentioned by @JohnsonTV , it should have been shown during AFL season. I know it’s not AFL per se, but there is a strong link.
It’s trashy TV at best. Ten can do better than this rubbish.

I agree and said the same thing last year. It should have run alongside The Bachelor.

I think promotions for this show were really lacking too. They only started advertising it two weeks ago and they only ran promos for the storyline in the last week.

Ten might be performing better in primetime atm, but cupboard is still bare (outside of Bolds US dramas). They should’ve ran a week of Playing for Keeps on Peach. It might not have rated more than the 80k who currently watch Peach post 7:30, but at least viewers could catch up and it wouldve been like an hour promo every night for a week (with a screen banner promoting return) before season 2 premier.

Anyway, i expect ABC and Ten will still see a big consolidated jump next week.

Home and Away under 600k average so far this week. Still gets about 90-100k online catch ups (nationally) which as least is pretty good.

Agree with running S1 of Playing for Keeps on Peach.

They could have run it all in one hit, or maybe just play S1 weekly in the same day & timeslot as S2 would appear on 10, so when S1 finished on Peach, the next week, S2 begins on 10.

This really could be done for any Australian show in its second series.

I don’t know why they don’t make use of their multichannels in this way. They really should.

I agree. It may have benefited from the Masked Singer lead in. Plus Ten’s Sunday’s suck so the Behind the Scenes special on Sunday would have been smart to start building momentum for Monday’s finale.

I think i agree with the other suggestion airing Monday and Tuesday, as Sundays would just revert to being a dud the following week. Now TMS is scheduled between 2 duds on a Sunday and Tuesday.

Bachelorette doing well in demos and online. Love islands online viewers almost match its overnight Metro.

It is quite weird. I have wondered if it’s something to do with the whole royalties scenario? Maybe because it’s a smaller production it could be limited to run only once on TV? Although completely stupid I agree, would also explain why the series disappears off TenPlay so quickly after the last season…

I agree though. All networks should use the multichannels for reruns of current dramas re-airing their earlier season it’s a missed opportunity.
