Convincing win for Nine on Wednesday, with one of its best (non SOO) Wednesday shares in recent months, up 3 from two weeks ago. Seven dropped 3 while 10 improved slightly and ABC was steady.

Nine won all markets except Perth that was won by Seven. Nine won 25-54 but was third in 16-39.

Hard Quiz piped Travel Guides to be the top entertainment show for the night while MasterChef edged ahead of Big Brother. For MasterChef it was its highest Wednesday rating of the year.

later, the announcement the Doctor, Doctor would finish next week drew extra viewers to the penultimate episode which was a season high. Mad as Hell continued to do well at 8.30.

The figures for the National Press Club address on ABC News channel were partly for the Victorian Government press conference announcing easing of COVID restrictions in Melbourne.

The repeat of The Hitman’s Bodyguard movie on 9GO! (with its sequel now in cinemas) did very well.

And topped the m/c key demos with high numbers. While of note 7mate’s usually dominant demographic results with animation Wednesday disappeared and the channel was only up a few .0% and just scraped 2% (last week was SOO).

The other thing is though, the new episodes appear on Disney+ pretty much same time (apart from Simpsons) so no urgency to watch on mate.

From Nine:

DOCTOR DOCTOR SURGES WEEK ON WEEK, EASILY WINNING ITS TIMESLOT AND THE NIGHT FOR CHANNEL 9

Doctor Doctor was a dominant timeslot winner with Total People and grew strongly week on week with People 25-54 and Total People.

Travel Guides was a time slot winner across the 5 City Metro, East Coast and in Brisbane.

9Network was the winning network across the 5 City with People 25-54 GS + Child and Total People

Channel 9 was the primary channel of choice across the 5 City with GS + Child * and Total People

9News was the No.1 program of the night across the East Coast and in Sydney and Brisbane and the No. 2 program in Melbourne and Adelaide.

9News 6.30 was the No.2 program of the night in Sydney and Brisbane.

A Current Affair won the 7pm timeslot across the East Coast and in Sydney and Brisbane.

Hot Seat won the gameshow battle across the East Coast and in Melbourne and Brisbane.

TODAY was the breakfast show of choice in Brisbane.

9GO! was the winning multi-channel across the 5 City with People 25-54 and GS + Child.

Sunrise continued one if its best recent weeks, but Today closed the gap to less than 50k yesterday. News breakfast was 30,000 behind Today.

Sunrise won Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. It was a tie in Melbourne between Sunrise and Today in rounded numbers though Today has slightly more viewers. Today again won Brisbane with News B second.

Lost Seven the night and gave The Latest practically no chance to rate. If they keep churning out movies then they need to have The Latest air straight after BB and then the movie if they HAVE to.

Leave the movies to multi channels. Would have got a similar figure on 7mate.

If late news like the Latest were on at the same time every night, then more would be likely to tune in. At our house it is only by shear fluke we ever catch Seven or Nine’s late news when flicking between channels, and even then it is on those rare occasions where free to air is still being watched at that time of night.

Agree that airing them almost nightly lately won’t work long-term for 2021. Austin Powers (late 90s) was a poor choice for especially BB’s current 16-39s age group. Deadpool the prior night was a better choice and ratings showed that.
Red on a Sunday a couple of weeks back did quite well.
So if they’ve got no new shows in the can for 9pm, some have been working, seems a bit hit and miss. But yeah the choice of title needs to be more careful IMO.

I think Aaron from TVB podcast was mentioning recently that if the movie does alright (250k-400k+) then its run time but especially late shares (say 10pm or later) is where it helps, when like Kath and Kim or Bull or new NCIS is only doing 100k on rival channels.
