Preliminary results - waiting for OzTAm data

As one reality show is closing in on the finish line another was just getting started last night. Seven had a narrow win in Wednesday night’s ratings - the network share lifted slightly from the previous week as 10 was able to gain ground. Nine suffered and was down 2 points. Nine won in Sydney and Brisbane with Seven ahead in AFL territory.

Big Brother was even with its recent results on its first Wednesday episode since week one while ABC’s line-up ranked second at 7.30. Next best was Emergency on Nine that improved its audience week-on-week followed by the launch of season 3 of Bachelor in Paradise with 507,000. That compares to the previous season that launched to 553,000. The show had a very young audience , however, and was able to rank first in 16-39.

Not a good start for Bachelor in Paradise.

Weak launch for Bachelor but it still did well in demos and I do think some of it’s audience would be similar to Big Brother (which already has an established audience) so might grow tonight not directly against it.

Although 7mate down around 1% with no more new Simpsons or Family Guy and an altered line-up, after some pretty good Wednesday (3%) shares this year.

Bachelor in Paradise beat BB in 16-39, the key demo both shows are targetting at. That’s the important thing.

Even though RBT went up on last week and RBT only dropped by 10,000.

Looks like it’s worst ‘animation Wednesday’ performance in the key demos this year, no entries in any key demo Top 5 (usually filled with Simpsons/Family Guy/American Dad).

BB failed to lift by any significant margin despite having an almost clear field. It lost the 16-39 demo to Bachelor despite Bachelor scoring 200k less viewers in total people.

Weak launch for Bachelor in Paradise - though it never has been something that’s fired hugely for 10… I don’t watch it, but what is it about BiP that doesn’t resonate as much as a regular season of The Bachelor?

I was expecting Big Brother to pick up some more viewers without MasterChef and the Voice as competition - instead it had its lowest audience of the week and was beaten in 16-39 by B in P.

Bachelor in Paradise has always seemed like an 8:30 show to me rather than earlier in the evening, it’s never been able to capitalize on the same success as the other 2 shows and seems to be used as (pandemic aside) filler content - impressive demos though.

I think Seven would be somewhat relieved by the fact that the audience for BB has somewhat stabilised around the high 600K to low 700K mark which is better than what most were predicting.

Bachelor in Paradise was always going to be the weakest out of the three in terms of the ratings. Even though it won the 16-39 demo it is fair to expect them to have done better considering they had a higher audience base to launch it on this year compared to last year, yet it did about the same. This probably suggests that the main audience for this show was always going to be around only 500K (with a lot of the youngest demographic watching).

Ratings: Big Brother wins timeslot ahead of final week

From Seven

Wednesday’s episode won its timeslot in 25-54 and total people.

From Nine

9News was the No.1 program of the night across the East Coast, in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Emergency was a timeslot winner in Brisbane.

A Current Affair was a dominant timeslot winner across the East Coast, in Sydney and Brisbane.

Hot Seat won its timeslot across the East Coast and in Sydney and Brisbane.

TODAY was the breakfast news program of choice in Brisbane.

From 10

  • #2 network in under 50s, 16 to 39s and 18 to 49s.

The Project 7pm:

  • #1 across its timeslot in under 50s and all key age groups.

Bachelor In Paradise:

  • #2 across its timeslot in under 50s, 25 to 54s and 18 to 49s, #1 in 16 to 39s.
  • Highest ever Bachelor In Paradise livestream audience on 10 Play, up 201% on 2019 launch.

However, Bachelor in Paradise performed very well in the demographics. They topped the 16-39 demographics, ranked 2nd in the 18-49 demos and third in the 25-54 demos.

The one issue BB has had all season is while it has a ‘core’ audience, it hasn’t been able to either expand it or capitalize when it’s been up against ‘weaker’ competition

That’s fair - but it’s some of the best numbers that 7 has gotten for a flagship reality for a while. I’m sure they’re appreciating some consistently solid numbers,
