The premiere of the new season of Gruen gave ABC a big boost to its best Wednesday result of the year. It was ABC’s best Wednesday result in survey in more than six years. Elsewhere, Nine was steady, Seven dropped 2 points and 10 was down more than 3.

Nine won the east coast plus Adelaide. ABC’s best market was Perth where it ranked second.

Nine won 25-54 with 10 second. 10 won 16-39.

Gruen debuted to 943,000, its highest season premiere since 2016 (952,000) and was up almost 200,000 from 2018’s 754,000. That gave Utopia (Rpt) and Planet America a boost in later timeslots

The Block won at 7.30 and was even with the previous week while The Bachelorette dropped 160,000 from the season premier the week before.

Seven’s Highway Patrol lost audience week-on-week as news numbers were lower than usual. Australian Crime Stories did quite well for Nine but The Masked Singer’s new timeslot failed to find an audience finishing just 37th. Seven’s movie Man Of Steel didn’t do much better in 29th place.

Hot Seat ties with The Chase Australia.

What a start to the new season of Gruen. It also topped all the major demographics too, something other ABC Wednesday shows have struggled to achieve.
Not sure why The Bachelorette suffered a big drop, 10 will be hoping it will bounce back tonight.

Great return for Gruen. Utopia repeat did very well off the back of it too.

Bad news for The Bachelorette. Are people getting tired of the concept?

Good numbers for Ahn, Gruen, Hard Quiz and even 7.30 in recent times suggest there’s an appetite for more than just reality at 7.30pm!
On the topic of reality, both the Bachelor and the Bachelorette are starting to show their age this year with viewership on a downward trend

Or the fact it’s on repeat with MasterChef everywhere so why bother watching it live.
Greun did well and took some viewers from the commercials

Is that the lowest figure ever for the Bachelorette?

The new episodes in Queensland are really paying off for Nine.

It is. Previous low was 512,000 set on November 1, 2018 (Ali Oetjen’s season).

10 are too reliant on this format. I would argue it is far too niche and alienates a lot of the audience who don’t want to sit through dating shows.

They do use this format a lot. But its a huge demographic show and also has a big online presence. 10 need to keep this format. They just need to build other shows around it. Which they kind of did do this year with The Masked Singer and Junior Masterchef. If they bring back Paradise it needs to be put either on Shake or at 8:30.

This season has been pretty dull so far IMO. I’m not saying that it needs to be full of drama (this season of The Bachelor had way too much of it). but at the same time this Bachelorette cast just isn’t that interesting. I hate to say it but next year is probably time to get a big drawcard name as the Bachelor and/or Bachelorette if they want to get some of the audience back.

It’d (BiP) be good at building Shake or Peach, but it’s a big demo grabber and good for the main channel. Build up the main channel a bit more then move it to build the multis.

ACA recorded its lowest Wednesday result for 2020.

I’d imagine that the champagne is flowing at Ultimo this morning with those ratings for Gruen - not often that an ABC program is the #2 show of the night in Total People (with only the 6pm half of Seven News receiving more viewers), #1 in the three key demographics + #1 in Sydney and Melbourne.

Seven’s post-7.30pm lineup tanked…what more can I say?!

I’d like to think that the facts there’s been no less than 24 dating/relationship/wedding-themed titles across the networks since 2014 + this being an age where we’re being encouraged to social distance ourselves from others are contributing factors in this year’s falling ratings for The Bachelorette.

Well they are resting Paradise next year anyway. So can’t even build up the main channel.

You know the Bachelorette is in trouble when it is not only outrated by The Block, but also by an ABC show in Gruen (in both TP and demos no less).

If 10 decides to have 3 Bachelor shows in a year in the future (let’s say in 2022) they need to make sure that there is a gap between when they air, instead of airing them one after another. That’s definitely going to drive viewer fatigue of the format and Osher.

There usually is a gap. But covid changed that this year.

Good luck to the ABC with the figures for Gruen. It’s amazing the different programs we all like. I wouldn’t watch Gruen if I was paid to. :grinning: :grinning: Not a fan of Wil Anderson. Never miss Hard Quiz though.
