Wednesday was a big night for multichannels with almost 40% of the audience tuned in. Otherwise, Seven was a winner again ahead by 4 with another strong news result. Home and Away at 7pm was down on Tuesday but closer to ACA. However, the BBL game was one of the lowest rated of the season in preliminary numbers.

Nine’s only prime time entries in the top 20 were News and ACA with the charity tennis event missing out.

10 scored its highest share since November as The Bachelors topped its night, up slightly on Tuesday and again the top entertainment property in the key demos as well as number one entertainment show for prime time. The good demo result helped 10 to win its first night of the year in a demo - the number one network in 16-39. The Project and 10 News also made the top 20.

ABC News continued to top ABC’s night and win its timeslot with 7.30 also number one. QI and Spicks and Specks managed to make the top 20.

Going forward I think The Bachelors has locked in its daily audience (280/300k). I’m assuming the show will be finished the time MAFS comes on board though?

Should be over before Survivor/MAFS/Idol start.

From 10:

Network 10 (10 + 10 Bold + 10 Peach + 10 Shake):

  • #1 network in 16 to 39s.
  • #2 network in under 50s and 25s to 54s.
  • 10 Peach: #1 multi-channel in its key demo of 16 to 39s.

The Bachelors Australia:

  • #1 series on BVOD with 13.3 million minutes viewed this week.
  • #1 show in 16 to 39s.
  • #1 entertainment show in under 50s, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.
  • #1 in its timeslot in under 50s, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.

The Project 7pm:

  • #2 in its timeslot in under 50s and 16 to 39s.

Out of interest what was I’m Celebrity getting in comparison to The Bachelor this time last year?

So it’s not as bad a flop as The Daily Mail are saying. I would say most people actually don’t watch much TV in prime time as much as they used to and tend to stream most shows. I know I have missed shows because I have been busy with things like football training and reading documents from work and I tend to stream when I can if I really wanted to watch the specific program.

The overnight audiences for the first three episodes of I’m Celebrity last year were:
Episode 1 (Monday): Opening night 794,000 / Welcome to the Jungle 750,000
Episode 2 (Tuesday): 634,000
Episode 3 (Wednesday): 570,000

Unfortunately, its not a good start for 10 this year. Going to be a struggle up until Easter.

I love your daily summaries but I don’t understand why you keep saying that 16-39 is the key demographic because times have changed

Tv audiences and campaigns skew older not younger. This is why Ten is struggling to gain market share in advertising $$ right now

The way 10 is going I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m A Celebrity ended up flopping. I wouldn’t be surprised if Survivor flops. The constant attacks from the gutter press at Newscorpse and The Daily M(F)ail doesn’t help.

OzTAM report 16-39 as a key demographic

Not sure why I’m a Celebrity was moved to later in the year. Either 10 wants the higher ratings then or it was logistics to do with the availability of the African site.

Either way they are still managing to get key demos watching the network at least this week when the offerings on Seven and Nine are less attractive.

The Bachelor is significantly outperforming the cricket for example (how much does that cost?) and with over 50% of its audience 25-54 females, it is a marketable commodity. Next week will be different when the AO starts though.

If 16-39 was the key demographic, then Ten would have the largest share of the advertising dollars

But we all know that is not the case and Ten can’t survive on being the “youth” network anymore

It is going to be interesting to see what is going to happen to Ten when the other networks bring out their big guns like MAFS, Australian Idol etc

Well, 39 year olds are not “youth”.

More people are watching 7 & 9’s (and almost 10’s) multi’s than 10’s main channel….

it was suggested in another thread that I’m A Celebrity had to get bumped because Bachelors was essentially pushed out from last year due to The Real Love Boat pushing in, so Bachelors had to get burned off over summer which meant (I guess) having to bump I’m A Celebrity. It’s a shame because I’m A Celebrity seems to work well in January but it may struggle later in the year.

10s overseas owners (Paramount) seem to be doing wonder’s for the network. I’m so looking forward to NCIS Sydney.

I think pushing Celebrity back was partly strategy to try and bridge the gap between Survivor and MC. They always struggle at that time of the year to fill the slots with new content. If Celebrity works there, I’m sure they will leave it. If not, back to January!

16-39 IS a key demo.

However 25-54 is where most revenue is booked.

The rank there is Nine, Seven then 10.
