US Politics

I do have to hand it to the Dems and left-wing media in the US…they’ve upended an age-old addage “don’t shoot the messenger” and have made the DNC exposure all about the person delivering that message…farcical!

Last I checked only one candidate had released her tax returns. And only one candidate had Fox News, talk radio, the right wing blogosphere and the entire of the KGB behind him. Informed my arse. And Trump Jr took a year and one call from the NYT to admit this. Admit it: the Trump administration is a slow-motion derailment.

Thank God for the free press is all I can say, because apparently the FBI didn’t know of this meeting (which Manafort and Kushner were supposed to have declared, but for some reason didn’t).

Guilty as all sin.

I understand (it’s been reported today) the meeting may violate provisions of US election campaign finance law, so the legal & proper thing for Trump Jr to have done was to immediately report it to the FBI instead of engaging in what could easily be construed as a criminal conspiracy with a foreign power (not exactly smart politically, let alone safe legally).

Remember criminal intent; just because nothing came of the meeting doesn’t change the fact that Trump Jr & other Trump campaign staff met with a Russian who said she represented Putin’s government and wanted to help Trump Sr by taking down Hillary Clinton.

Also, Trump Jr published the e-mail trail himself so unlike claims from opponents the Trump White House can’t dispute the facts documented in those e-mails.

The younger Mr. Trump and his apologists claim that he responded as would any campaign operative seeking dirt on an opponent. No. Any ethical operative confronted by a foreign power’s attempt to meddle in this way in U.S. elections would refer the matter promptly to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

I’m going to have to agree with you @pelican, even though they might have not gotten any information, the intent to do it was wrong.

What a truly stupid country. Why nothing is done about police brutality in the US, I don’t know.

It is astounding that US police keep killing people who have called them for help.

You’d think people in America would learn to not call the cops; perhaps that’s what they want (‘we’ve reduced calls’ therefore crime is down!); sadly the term ‘suicide by cop’ comes to mind.

In this case their body cameras - which were meant to reduce police violence - were off, and all we hear is paid administrative leave.
Even in the rare occasion when police officers have been charged recently, somehow they’ve not been convicted, even of manslaughter, let alone murder which shows how broken the system is there (remember intention to kill isn’t required for murder, just intending to injure & resulting death, and shooting obviously does intend to injure).

Until these trigger-happy &/or incompetent police are convicted & jailed, nothing will change.

Republican Senator and former Presidential candidate John McCain has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

Perhaps it explains some of his behaviour of recent years (maybe as far back as his poor choice of running mate).

Oh the irony of how the Republicans are apparently concerned his absense on health grounds will make it difficult for them to take away health care from poor people.

Oh, glioblastoma is a terrible diagnosis.

5% survival rate for people in their late fifties and early sixties. Doesn’t look good.

Not funny mate, not funny

In other news, Donald Trump Jr. and Paul Manafort are to testify publicly to congress on Wednesday about the meeting with a Russian lawyer in June last year.

Kushner, who is currently a close advisor to Donald Trump and husband of Ivanka Trump, will testify privately on Monday (he has security clearance in the White House, so sensitive information means it cannot be public).

Big things ahead.

MSNBC. One of their stars. How dopey can you get? And all in a bizarre stretch to paint Trump as a Russian agent, because of his Soviet wives, LOL.

JoyAnn Reid is very unhinged. You can see that in her support of the even nuttier Louise Mensch.

In addition to the above, (ike so many Americans) her knowledge of history is awful:
Yugoslavia (AKA Jugoslavia) consisted of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia and Montenegro (the latter not to be confused with Greece), but never Slovakia. Not every country which the Soviet army occupied at the end of WW2 was part of the same country.

Something is seriously wrong in the US, and American politics, when this media outlet, The Huffington Post, is treated as a credible source for political discussion.

First thought on seeing this news was that it seems unreasonable.

Found the reference to “costs” interesting so did a bit of research…

It seems like the military was actually paying for sex reassignment surgery. WTF. Seriously, what on earth is the taxpayer doing funding sex reassignment?

Also:

How completely barmy. Your sex is a feature of your BIRTH. The same as your birth date, or your place of birth. Imagine saying I want my birth date to be 25 August 2002 and birth place Siberia, and then expecting the taxpayer to fund the ludicrous amendment. The liberal world has become stupid.

The US military spent 5 times as much on Viagra, which seems equally as unreasonable.

Not really no.

Well, to begin with, there are just slightly more than 5 times the amount of men in the US military, than people wanting sex reassignment surgery, no?

Considering the workload includes being away from the US for extended periods, the provision of contraceptive materials, and even viagra, is completely reasonable.

Oh f*** me. Of course it is. You’re either born with a penis (male), a vagina (female) or intersex. Of COURSE it is a feature of your birth. A baby doesn’t come out of a womb with a blank space where its genitals should be saying “choose my sex”. Am I on another planet here or are you just talking bollocks?

Modern medicine says no.

People can choose to become who they want to be. It’s not a choice they take lightly, especially when they come up against their own loved ones.
