We’ve spoken about this adult album alternative (Triple A) format that Coast FM had on a couple of occasions. Double J is pretty far removed from it imo. The previous incarnation of Double J, ABC Dig Music, was based on it. Triple A is mostly alternative soft rock/singer songwriter music at its core; Double J plays too much hip hop and dance to be considered AAA.

If you want a good Dig Music/ABC Coast FM type station, the closest I’ve found is Radio Paradise. Although based in the US, they play a surprising amount of world music, including artists from Australia like The Waifs. There is a bit of mainstream rock music in there as well.

I stumbled across another such radio station WDST Radio Woodstock which plays the AAA genre. It is a commercial station but sounds like a freeform one with minimal commercials (and these commercials are mainly local businesses). You can access the live stream without having to use a VPN.

An irony that you’ve got the 3GL logo and mentioned ABC Coast FM.

When I was at 94.7 The Pulse in Geelong as a volunteer around late 2004/early 2005, when the Geelong Multi-cultural group took over, I keep pushing them to adopt a music format like ABC Coast FM. Something that’s a different sound, but of broader appeal. Sadly, they didn’t go for it.
