Unskilled Adult

Unskilled Adult

Premiering 1 November and from the hilarious and creative mind of Gold Logie winner Hamish Blake, enter the world of Unskilled Adult, where it is never too late to learn something new – even if you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing. Each week, Hamish recruits two equally underqualified friends from the entertainment world to join his new business and tackle a challenge none of them are remotely prepared for. Together, they’ll have to master a completely new skill from scratch, navigate the inevitable chaos and somehow produce a result that’s hopefully good enough to get paid for.

HAMISH BLAKE BECOMES USEFUL IN THE STAN ORIGINAL UNSKILLED ADULT

A show that proves it’s never too late to learn something new

September 17, 2026 – Stan and UA Productions today announced the Stan Original Unskilled Adult, a new eight-part series starring Hamish Blake that proves it’s never too late to learn something new – even if you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing. Unskilled Adult will premiere with a double episode on November 1, only on Stan.

After years of successfully mucking around for a living, Hamish Blake has realised when it comes to practical skills, he doesn’t have many. To remedy this, Hamish starts a business helping real people with jobs they really need done, for real money and putting himself firmly on the hook.

Each week, Hamish recruits two equally underqualified personalities to join him in tackling a challenge none of them are remotely prepared for. From welding a trailer or catering a wedding to drywalling a salami shed and sewing costumes for a community theatre, Hamish and his team will jump in at the deep end and use their wits and lateral thinking to make up for the years of training and experience they’re missing. At the end of each job, the client decides what the work is actually worth and how much, if anything, they’re prepared to pay.

Expect funny, hilarious and ridiculous moments with Hamish and his hapless employees, as they pick up genuinely useful skills, help everyday Australians and rediscover the satisfaction of learning something new.

Hamish Blake said: “Who would have thought that by not acquiring any skills for 44 years, it would perfectly qualify me for this TV show? Unskilled Adult has been so much fun to make, and Stan is a great home for it. I can’t wait for people to see the show, even though it means completely revealing how truly unskilled I am.”

Nine Entertainment’s Executive Director, Entertainment, Michael Healy said: “Hamish Blake has been part of the Nine Network for many years, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to Stan this November with the premiere of Unskilled Adult. Watching Hamish bring his signature wit and lateral thinking to tasks he has no business attempting is pure comedy, and we’ve loved working with UA Productions on this delightful production. We look forward to viewers not only experiencing the joy of this series but picking up some useful new skills along the way.”

Unskilled Adult is created and produced by UA Productions. Executive producers include Blake, Tim Bartley (Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year, True Story with Hamish and Andy), Greg Sitch (Fisk, Guy Montgomery’s Guy-Mont Spelling Bee) and Plum Stubbings (Crime Night!, True Story with Hamish and Andy). Michael Healy and Adrian Swift are executive producers for 9Network and Stan.

The Stan Original Unskilled Adult premieres November 1 with a double episode, only on Stan. New episodes weekly.

Tasks range from welding a trailer to catering a wedding, drywalling a salami shed and sewing costumes for a community theatre. Hamish and his team will jump in at the deep end and use their wits and lateral thinking to make up for the years of training and experience they’re missing. They discover that being a beginner is equal parts frustrating, exhilarating, and ridiculous. At the end of each job, the client decides what the work is actually worth and how much, if anything, they’re prepared to pay.

At its heart, Unskilled Adult is a funny and optimistic celebration of having a go, being useless at something new and discovering that you’re never too old, or too unskilled, to learn.
