Question for the Gen X crowd: Did WIN in the Illawarra ever have probably weekend bulletins? CTC Canberra for example had weekend bulletins from 1981-1994 (as Australian Capital News/Capital Eyewitness News). Per my memory, they only had weekend weather updates.

Only ever brief weekend updates, either at 5.57 or 6.28pm⌠was axed in the late 90s I think. Also had them in Canberra too.

From what I can remember & gather, WIN had the weekend local news updates until the end of 2002.

In the UK, Network DVD (I think) brought out two DVDs filled with 70 and 80s PIFs called âCharlie Ssysâ (named after a memorable one featuring Charlie the Cat, and sampled by The Prodigy in 1991). I remember a lot of them used to be shown on Channel 4, when the regional ITV companies inserted the ads and hadnât sold enough spots to fill the break!
Doesnât help you, but itâs a point of interest.

Iâve been using the newspaper archives of The Age and SMH to determine some of the missing original transmission dates for A Country Practice. A strange anomaly I found is that the two-episode block Save the Last Dance for Me (episodes 301-302, or 5.21 and 5.22) did not appear to be shown in Melbourne. If the Age synopses are correct (and they seem to be), HSV7 skipped these episodes that should have appeared on 14th and 15th May 1985. The episodes starred Robert Helpmann in a guest role, and were part of the story arc leading up to Mollyâs death - so I do find it very bizarre that these episodes, or indeed any episodes, were skipped.
Google AI gives conflicting information, depending on how I word the query, but at one point stated that âthese episodes were famously skipped in Melbourne as reported by several sources including @TelevisionAUâ!! and gives the reason that âepisodes were often pre-empted for AFL and not postponed in order to stay in sync with the Sydney marketâ which is total BS as Melbourne were several episodes behind Sydney and, even if they had skipped the episodes, they wouldnât have caught up. Molly appears to have carked it on 12th June 1985 in Melbourne, a week after her demise in Sydney.
Does anyone know anything about this?

âfamouslyâ?? I know my memory is a bit flawed in my old age, but I am sure this is literally the first time I am reading of this skipping of episodes. I certainly donât recall reporting anything of the fact. Maybe Google can refresh my memory of where I said this?

Indeed! I asked for a source but no link was provided, and I seriously doubted youâd posted anything of the sort. It is very odd though - why would HSV7 skip two episodes? All the synopses match for February to early May, and an article suggests that Mollyâs death was indeed shown on 12th June, so thereâs nowhere those two episodes could be fitted in, unless a very late change was made, after the paper went to print, such as two double episodes somewhere.
(Iâve corrrcted some typoed dates: the death was 12th June but the edit is slow to update!)

It looks like youâve already done a deep dive to try and find out. Maybe there were some double episodes thrown in at late notice to catch Melbourne up to Sydney. But I honestly canât recall anything about it, sorry.

no doubt they were shown in re-runs etc., but as part of the original run I canât imagine why Seven would have skipped episodes particularly those featuring the major story arc of the approaching death of Molly Jones. And given the major storyline unfolding the episodes would have had to be shown in sequence.

I saw one of those episodes later that year here in Melbourne! It was definitely no earlier than July and might have been during daylight saving. I didnât normally watch A Country Practice but I saw an ad for one of those episodes on channel 7 and wanted to watch it.
It reminded me of something that happened at my school and I kind-of wondered whether those events inspired that episode in some way. Given that the episode originally went to air before those events, I now know that the answer is no. Thanks for helping me find the answer.

Thatâs odd @ron12 - the episodes were due for TX in Melbourne on 14th and 15th May 1985, but if the archive listings are correct they jumped straight to S5E23 on 14th. If you saw them in July it appears they were shown out of sequence, which makes very little sense with the ongoing Molly arc playing out over these episodes. Molly would have died in June but then suddenly be alive again in July!!
I canât see these episodes scheduled in July either but Iâll check the rest of the year. Was it definitely HSV7 you were watching, and not picking up a country station?

I vaguely remember it still being light outside so it probably was during Daylight Saving, which started on October 27.

Seven did used to screen âbest ofâ episodes during the non-ratings season in the earlier years of the show, so it may have been a re-run.

I just had a look through the Sydney Morning Herald archives myself and it appears they werenât shown in Sydney either!!

Iâve checked the SMH again, and it seems Castles in the Air was shown 23rd/24th April, and Save the Last Dance on 30th April/1st May., then Lost and Found 7th/8th May. So it was definitely shown in Sydney - perhaps the order of the episodes on IMDb is incorrect.
However, this doesnât explain the anomaly in Melbourne, where My Way was shown 7th/8th May, Castles in the Air 14th/15th May, then Lost and Found 21st/22nd May - then Save the Last Dance, as you say, on 27th/28th August!!
