The Olympics continue to perform for Seven, with the network’s fifth straight overnight win. Seven’s main channel was just 0.1 ahead of Nine’s as Seven had the two top multi channels of the night - 7Mate outrating SBS.

Married At First Sight had another easy win for Nine, down from Monday’s peak but up from the previous Tuesday. The Hundred With Andy Lee that followed managed 450,000. That compares to the debut of the show in August last year that had 470,000 (with a 630k lead in).

Seven News won again but with a smaller margin over Nine with Nine News winning Sydney and Melbourne. The Olympic numbers were down across the night with Home and Away underperforming in the 7pm slot.

Australian Survivor was right on 500k again, up slightly from the previous week. Neighbours notable for the number one multichannel spot.

A poor night for ABC starting with 7.30 lower than usual.

Even though the ratings are mild, very bittersweet to be seeing Neighbours top the multichannel s more frequently.

Low ratings for the third and final ODI in Women’s Ashes but a solid debut for Hotel Portofino.

I notice that Seven has split the 6-7pm session of Beijing Olympics on 7mate into two: Fringe for Sydney and Melbourne viewers, and Evening for Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Mafs seems much higher this early on in the season

Equivalent ep last year had 948,000. In 2020 the second Tuesday had 1.1 million. Though 9Now numbers are higher this year so probably about the same overall as last season.

But it does have huge competition against it. I’d say Home and Away is dropping into worrying territory especially considering it’s sandwiched between the number one show for the night and the high rating Olympics.

Huge drop for Sydney numbers also. Regional really bumps Home and Away up massively when you see total figures, but in comparison to what we have above, I’d be watching 7 this year to see if they try any more strange timeslot tweaks like previous years.

Just wanting a clarification on timeslots. Because I’d always assumed “Evening” was before “Night” (and makes sense when you compare H&A and Evening’s low number against the competition of Married as well as Survivor), then with less competition you see “Night” increase.

But upon raising this with Knoxy on TVT this morning following his daily analysis, he replied sticking with “Evening” being after “Night” and has hence analysed each timeslot as such.

But I’m positive he is mistaken, a rarity for him, but none the less its always good to be questioned and potentially corrected. As Seven’s own corporate tweet today said Night: No. 1 in Total People. That cannot be correct if “Night” is 7:30pm timeslot, as Married was a country mile ahead, also technically Survivor was too.

Anyway, happy to be corrected, but just wanted to see what our resident expert @TV.Cynic and others thought, as I’m positive on this :slight_smile: And see, this is where multiple split-coding can cause issues/confusion!

The session time differ for each market but the AEDT times as per the Seven Schedule provided by the network were

This is what Seven used for the Olympics last year.

I would assume, but don’t know, that they’re following the same so Evening is before Night which is before Late Evening.

Yep, exactly. MW also had evening before night on their daily wrap this morning too.

Thank you Cynic. But as we know the guide/EPG listings are always usually different to the actual ratings codings. And as per your comment Seven have also put evening before night. But their guide evening says “7mate” which we know is not reflected in the ratings, considering 480k-odd would be huge for a multi and the channel share would be way higher. Not to mention multi-channel, at least for Sydney and Melbourne, is “fringe” (seen in the m/c list above).

This again comes back to Seven having no consistency between programming and ratings departments and too many split-ratings and always being secretive on exact times. Confusing for people like us.

Not really that surprising, it had a lot going against it. Mid-week, the series already wrapped up, England weren’t playing well, it was up against the Olympics, and it was airing on 7Two in Sydney and Melbourne. To be honest, you would have hardly known it was on if you weren’t looking for it.

I think that the Seven schedule at least shows that Seven considers the “evening” session to come before the “Night” session.

I think to be fair to Seven, the difference between the program section and the ratings section is the time zone considerations. While the night sessions might occur in the afternoon in Perth on the schedule, for the ratings, they have chosen to keep a consistent time across markets.

Home and Away does very well in catch up on streaming/con solo dates figures, though. It’s still a very popular soap in Australia and I can’t see it going anytime soon.
